Renaissance Winery

1715 visitors

Founded in 1978, Renaissance wines are best known for their uncompromising expression of terroir and distinctive style. Winemaker Gideon Beinstock handcrafts estate-bottled wines in a traditional European style. The Sierra Foothills vineyard is organically cultivated. Elevations range from 1,700 to 2,300 feet. After 30 years of extensive experimentation, Renaissance now focuses on limited production of the Bordeaux and Rhone families of varietals. Our vineyard and winery is situated 70 miles North of Sacramento in Oregon House, California and our staff welcome your visit at our lakeside tasting room, by appointment.

Cuvee

1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Premiere Cuvee

To our knowledge, no other California winery is releasing a wine of this age and quality level. We are blessed with great vintages thought the nineties and this wine represents a d ... moreefinite peak of quality. This is a penetrating, dimensional and truly elegant wine with great structure and lovely balance. It is quite drinkable now, but will reward even further aging, possibly as much as another 10-15 years. Superb length.

2001 Granite Crown

From the same plot that gave us the marvelous syrah for the legendary bottlings of our Syrah Première Cuvée, this offering shows velvety, deep fruit flavors that suggest mulberry ... more and blueberry. The distinctive Renaissance terroir is evident in the minerality and in the remarkable depth of fruit. This is a very large-scale wine that, while drinking well now, will reward long-term aging. The refined tannin is very well worked and there is no hint of harshness while maintaining firmness on the palate.

1991 Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest

Diana Werner, Gideon’s predecessor as winemaker, deserves all the praise for this beauty. Diana’s wines are noted for their delicate aromas and finely tuned balance of acid and ... more sugar as represented here. With plenty of peach and pear, this is an amazing 16-year-old new release. The flavors lean towards tropical fruits with a long, long, refreshing finish.

1983 Cabernet Sauvignon Founders Reserve

Our first Reserve level Cabernet made by our founding wine maker Karl Werner. An old fashioned, (and somewhat eccentric) style of winemaking. Intense and uncompromising, not a soft ... more rich experience – this is a specimen of an extinct species! Very dark color, showing little evolution. Powerful bouquet of great complexity and depth (berries, musk, tar, earth, spices, tobacco). Lean, compact, tight, and austere in the mouth, with high acid, red-berry fruit and (very) powerful dry tannins. Very high extract, intense flavors, very long, dry finish. Decanting for several hours prior to serving is highly recommended. Serve with roasted meats and powerful sauces, mature cheeses or any fine steak.

1984 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

A wine of unique character. The epitome of Karl Werner’s style of winemaking: huge body, massive extraction and concentration of flavors, monumental proportions and structure. Ev ... moreolving at a glacier’s pace, this wine will probably still be drinking well in a couple of decades. Have it with a beef roast or with aged cheese at the end of a fine dinner. Red brick in color, this flavorful beauty is at its height of maturity. Intense aromas of cedar, violets and earthy nuances play upon your palate. A very structured wine with soft texture and masculine tannins. This wine is drinking wonderfully now - open and decant two hours before serving. Cost: $ 35.00 per 375ml

1985 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

Gideon’s Tasting Notes: One of Karl Werner's best-balanced red wines from that era, the ‘85 has evolved beautifully with nearly 2 decades in the bottle. Its tannins are well in ... moretegrated and resolved, the flavor is alive, open, complex, and pure - an archetypal fully mature Cabernet Sauvignon, with excellent texture and proportion. The wine is in no danger of fading any time soon, but has now reached its plateau of full maturity. Filet Mignon, roast beef, veal, rabbit, wild mushrooms.

1994 Chardonnay

Two thirds of this wine was fermented and aged sur-lie in oak barrels (French, German and American, about 50% new), the balance was fermented and aged on its primary lees in stainl ... moreess steel tanks. The barrel-fermented portion underwent malo-lactic fermentation, while the tank-fermented portion did not, to preserve more of its primary fruity aromas.

An amazingly youthful Cabernet Sauvignon for its age, now at its glorious full maturity - all rounded and fully harmonized, with no rough edges or sharpness, and no signs of old ag ... moree decline either. Intensely fruity and flavorful, with lavish concentration and texture, and impressive complexity and length.

1994 Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Select

A new direction in our sauvignon blanc production, the 94 Barrel Select Sauvignon Blanc was our first blend of this varietal with semillon (11%). Semillon is widely used for such b ... morelends in Bordeaux to improve complexity, agreeability and balance in the final wine. The wine was fermented and aged on the lees in new oak barrels: it is a real blockbuster, an ideal wine for grilled salmon steak, crab cakes or lobster.

From Slope 16 at the highest point of our vineyard this wine demonstrates refinement, concentration and depth. Detailed, like fine jewelry. Dry spice like the smell from an old spi ... morece cabinet - paprika, cardamon. The epitome of elegance. Certainly a big wine demonstrating muscle and intensity with excellent structure and balance. Tastes light and vibrant with unity in its elements. Amazing length. Medium-full bodied, it should age for many decades.

2000 Merlot

This is not your typical middle of the road California Merlot. What awaits you in the bottle is a full throttle, intense, rustic rendition of this gentle-hearted, easy-going variet ... moreal. Dark color; intense nose of ripe black fruits (plum/cherry), grilled meat, oriental spices and herbs. Medium full-bodied, with open knit, juicy, vibrant character. Rich fruit and powerful flavors are matched by a muscular structure and a long crisp finish. Have it with a rack of lamb or a roasted venison. Will improve for a decade or two in the bottle.

Very ripe and slightly pungent now showing a fascinating combination of honeyed, heavy tropical fruit like over-ripe papaya and strong herbal/vegetal notes. Very rich, made in an o ... moreld-fashioned oxidative style, which will reward long aging. Low acidity which makes it appear richer and more concentrated than some of the previous vintages. The merest hint of vanilla – taste of rhubarb and tropical fruit, with nicely rounded oak and a herbal spicey side.
