Sauvignon Blanc

20219 visitors
The grape originated in France, in the regions of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. Plantings in California, Australia, Chile and South Africa are also extensive, and Sauvignon Blanc is steadily increasing in popularity as white wine drinkers seek alternatives to Chardonnay. The grape can also be found in Italy and Eastern Europe.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with any shellfish, grilled or marinated white meat fishes and sushi. Fresh summer salads and vinaigrettes with shaved cheese are a nice afternoon repast with Sauvignon Blanc. Excellent with Mexican cuisine.

2005 Sauvignon Blanc
Napa Valley

Our Sauvignon Blanc comes from our 4-acre 16-year-old dry-farmed vineyard which sits at an altitude of 850 feet. The wine is fermented and aged in new French oak barrels for 16 mo ...morenths resulting in a wine of great depth and complexity, displaying the flavor and textural profile more like a white Bordeaux than a California Sauvignon Blanc. Very limited production of 100 cases.

2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Napa Valley

When lively Sauvignon Musque meets fruit-forward Viognier the result is wine with a sunny disposition that both refreshes and satisfies. Add in a bit of Semillon and the creamines ...mores derived from sur-lies aging in both tank and barrel and the result is a wine that delivers up a sunny core of citrus and tropical fruits, while pleasing the palate with mouthwatering texture. The fruit for this wine comes from our estate vineyards in Oakville, carefully nurtured by our hard-working staff with an eye toward harvesting fully ripened clusters bursting with flavor. Should you get hooked on this wine – not to worry – we’re gonna be do’in this one for awhile!

2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Rutherford

The ripening from spring through early summer 2006 was slow and steady. Warm weather during the first 2 weeks of August indicated that we were in for an early harvest, but the cool ...moreer weather during the second half of August slowed down maturation and was ideal for the Sauvignon Blanc. We harvested for maturation over only three nights with the various vineyard blocks giving us the breadth of fruit profile. Our traditional night harvesting during the cool of the early morning helps to retain the vibrant Sauvignon Blanc aromas and flavors. Coupling this with “skin contacting†the fruit for up to 24 hours before pressing amplified the intense fruit flavors from our Rutherford vineyard. The juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks over four to five weeks with selected yeasts that further enhanced the flavors. After racking and blending, the wine was bottled at Napa Wine Company (custom crush facility) in March 2007 using Stelvin screw cap closures.

2006 Sauvignon Blanc

Bright and Crisp, yet fuller and more generous than you expect with an uncommonly long finish.
Perfectly vine ripened grapes were hand sorted and whole-cluster cold pressed. ...more Multiple yeast fermentation started in a tank with the temperature slowly lowered to 45 degrees. The final stage of fermentation was in neutral oak barrels in our cool cave. Fermentation took five months, producing a generous amount of glycerin, contributing to the unique sensations it arouses in the mouth.

2006 was an exceptional vintage, especially for early ripening varietals like Sauvignon Blanc. The spring was warm and the summer mild. Winter rains waited until the last grapes were harvested.

This wine truly provides an unrivaled complexity and an exceptional depth.

2005 Gusto Sauvignon Blanc

I made Sauvignon Blanc for years in California, and it has long been a favorite wine to drink because of its crisp, refreshing character. I have always preferred my Sauvignon Blanc ...more in the more vibrant style, without the heavy character of oak barrels, a style I started to admire coming out of New Zealand wineries in the 90’s. Well, the seasons in New Zealand are opposite those here in the Northern Hemisphere, so when my California vineyards are sleepy and quiet, awaiting the arrival of Spring – it is Fall in New Zealand and the grapes are starting to ripen! In 1998 I arranged to work the harvest in the Northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, in a region called Marlborough. I went to study and experience the winemaking styles and techniques, although what I discovered is a microclimate that turns the Sauvignon Blanc grape into distinctive and delicious flavor reflections. The Cook’s Straight which separates New Zealand’s two islands, creates a constant funnel of marine breezes, continually cooling the coastal vineyards. The soils are rich in calcareous deposits, the benefit of the island geography. This translates into vigorous vines and long growing seasons.

2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Russian River Valley

The 2006 growing season in the Russian River Valley was as schizophrenic as they come… As farmers, we tend to always complain about the weather and this year gave us a lot to com ...moreplain about! The season began with a late budbreak followed by rain during early bloom and overall, very cool growing conditions. The crop levels were high, causing a need to go into the vineyard and thin crop (this means throwing fruit to the ground) at least three times before the grapes ripened. Choosing the right time to pick grapes in 2006 reminded me of trying to choose the right wave to paddle into after a major storm in the pacific (one leading to a close-out wave and inevitable wipeout and the other to an exhilarating tube trip). Enjoy the ride!

The 2006 Longboard Sauvignon Blanc fruit comes from two vineyards: 8.5% from the Delamontanya Vineyard and 91.5% from the O’Neel Vineyard. The wine displays peach and honeysuckle aromas and delivers a mouthful of fresh, crisp pear and apple flavors. The balanced acidity ensures the wine will match well with a variety of foods ranging from Dungeness Crab cakes to Thai dishes.

After primary fermentation, about 25% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, lending a unique creaminess and full mouthfeel to a classically lean wine. The juice was fermented and aged using a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. This vintage marks our first release of a screw cap Sauvignon Blanc.

This 2006 O.F.S. Sauvignon Blanc offers refreshing rich tropical fruit layers and flavors of ripe pineapple, kiwi and guava. Aromas of fresh wild herb and lime with hints of ginger and white pepper make this a lovely wine for food pairing or to enjoy all by itself.
