Pinot Noir

22549 visitors
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines produced predominantly from pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the french words for pine and black alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit.

Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. In De re rustica, Columella described a grape variety in Burgundy in the 1st century A.D. that sounds like Pinot noir. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.

2005 Pinot Noir
Lone Tree Vineyard

We hand harvested the fruit for the 2005 Lone Tree Vineyard Pinot Noir, and then gently destemmed it before fermenting it in 100% stainless steel tanks. Flavors and aromas were ext ...moreracted during pumpovers, after which the wine was moved to French oak barrels for nine months of aging. This wine is a deep ruby-purple color. The nose combines blackberry, plum, sweet cigar tobacco, hazelnut and earth with floral and rose notes. On the palate, the wine is rich and silky with flavors of ripe red fruit, wet earth and spice at mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins are luscious and broad, with balanced acids that lead to a long finish of fresh blackberries, cherry and vanilla. Russian River Valley

More than any other variety, Pinot Noir is a wine that speaks for itself once it reaches your palate. Our 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a great example of a wine crafted ...morefrom perfect fruit. When grown with care, Pinot Noir in our region delivers a great balance of fruity and earthy aromas and flavors packaged in a velvety mouth feel. This wine is a mix of three clones of Pinot Noir grown in two vineyards. We pick the fruit when flavors are well developed but before any raisining or extremely high sugar levels show up. The fruit was picked at night in the O’neel vineyard and early in the morning at the Wholer vineyard. The grapes where destemmed and put into open-top tanks for fermentation. We pressed the wines as soon as the fermentation completed and racked them into French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation completed in the winter of 2007, after which the wines were allowed to age and develop tertiary flavors on the light lees of fermentation.

Rose petal, plum, and slight bergamot aromas lead on the nose of this wine, a promise of what is to come with the first sip. On the palate, the wine starts with a cherry note and follows with wild berry flavors. The f

2006 Estate Pinot Noir
El Dorado County

This is the second vintage of the Estate Pinot noir and was cropped at less than 1 ton per acre. The wine beautifully reflects our unique growing site situated at 3,000 ft elevatio ...moren on chalky volcanic soil. The high elevation allows for cooler days and much lower over-all heat accumulation throughout the growing season. The cooler temperature enabled the Pinot noir to ripen slowly, which is necessary to develop and retain its varietal and terroir driven characteristics. The grapes were hand-picked, sorted, and underwent a 3 day cold soak followed by a slow fermentation. The wine was aged on its solids for 12 months and was bottled unfined and unfiltered as to minimize the handling of the fragile grape variety. Our vineyard granted us with a very delicate, light bodied, yet balanced and complex Pinot noir. The bouquet of ripe strawberry, perfume, and vanilla bean is delightfully counterbalanced by earthy notes reminiscent of smoke, cedar, and mushroom. The palate is fruit forward with hints of earth and is supported by a firm acidity.
