Pinot Noir

22558 visitors
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines produced predominantly from pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the french words for pine and black alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit.

Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. In De re rustica, Columella described a grape variety in Burgundy in the 1st century A.D. that sounds like Pinot noir. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.

2005 Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley

Our passion for the Pinot Noir grape extends northward to Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where we seek an inspiring contrast to our Pinot Noir bottlings from California’s Santa Ri ...moreta Hills. The 2005 vintage hails equally from Temperance Hill Vineyard in the Eola Hills and Parish Hill Vineyard in the Red Hills of Dundee. The result is a pure and complex expression of Oregon Pinot Noir.

2005 Pinot Noir
Sonoma Valley

The 2005 Estate Pinot Noir is a nice counterpoint to our 2004. We were able to ripen our small crop slowly and evenly, experiencing our longest hangtime per pound produced in the R ...moreanch's history. This wine has a medium-plus color with a touch more black fruit than in years past. The aromatics have the now traditional high-toned red and orange fruits plus blackberries, cloves and cinnamon. Palate-wise, the berry/cherry combination shows through immediately, uninterrupted by oak or tannin.

2004 Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

The 2004 Sonoma Coast comes from a single site in the far west corner of Sebastopol. Though heat defined most of the 2004 vintage, this site benefited tremendously from its colder, ...more foggier nature and northwest exposure. A mix of red and black fruits with the classic coastal cola/forest floor aromatics, this wine has really blossomed with an extrea year in bottle. The palate is crushed raspberries, cranberries and molasses with baking spice notes and acidity fleshing out the finish.

2006 Branciforte Ridge Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains
Branciforte Ridge, Santa Cruz Mountains

Being in a cool climate, ocean-influenced mountain appellation, we could no longer resist the temptation of making a Pinot Noir. The 2006 Branciforte Ridge is, we believe, a classi ...morec example of Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir (which have been made here since the 60s) with fruit, structure, mouthfeel and a long finish woven into one sustained, harmonious whole. We harvested at an ideal ripeness with balanced tannins and acidity that the mountain climate promotes. Bright cherry, raspberry and even some cherry blossom come through on the nose, and are supported in the mouth by a firm foundation of minerality, crushed rocks and redwoods. For a delicate and subtle wine, there is a substantial body and mouthfeel. Silky tannins and firm acidity play strongly on the mid-palate and carry a the beam of that bright red fruit through to a long, lingering finish. This wine has evolved substantially during barrel aging and will surely continue to do so for some time yet in the bottle. Enjoyable now, it will further integrate and develop with several years in your cellar.

2006 Grand Detour Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

The 2006 Grand Detour Pinot Noir is a blend of five Sonoma Coast vineyards: Kanzler, Keller Estate, Flocchini, Gap's Crown and Armagh. There is also some fruit from the Solomon Hil ...morels Vineyard in Santa Barbara. The result is a wine that exhibits great typicity and elegant balance. The cool growing season in 2006 and the extremely late harvest produced a wine with strong notes of raspberry and strawberry. It was aged in 33% new oak for ten months. This is an elegant, classic Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. This wine will pair well with game, duck and salmon as well as mushroom accented dishes.
