Pinot Noir

22521 visitors
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines produced predominantly from pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the french words for pine and black alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit.

Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. In De re rustica, Columella described a grape variety in Burgundy in the 1st century A.D. that sounds like Pinot noir. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.

2005 Pinot Noir
Lone Tree Vineyard

We hand harvested the fruit for the 2005 Lone Tree Vineyard Pinot Noir, and then gently destemmed it before fermenting it in 100% stainless steel tanks. Flavors and aromas were ext ...moreracted during pumpovers, after which the wine was moved to French oak barrels for nine months of aging. This wine is a deep ruby-purple color. The nose combines blackberry, plum, sweet cigar tobacco, hazelnut and earth with floral and rose notes. On the palate, the wine is rich and silky with flavors of ripe red fruit, wet earth and spice at mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins are luscious and broad, with balanced acids that lead to a long finish of fresh blackberries, cherry and vanilla. Enjoy this delicious wine with roasted pheasant or quail, rabbit terrine or rich pasta dishes.

2005 Regulus Pinot Noir

Aromas of strawberry, cinnamon bark, earth, and forest floor. On the palate strawberry, cherry and clove with a pleasing brightness. A delicious, medium-bodied wine. The main bo ...moredy of the wine comes from a field selection named for Joseph Swan, who brought in the original budwood from Burgundy. Although finicky even by Pinot standards, Swan can produce mouthwatering wines that showcase terroir and combine fruit, undergrowth (“sousboisâ€) and spice in a unique way among Pinot grapes.

2004 Pinot Noir

She is one tasty treat, full of pomegranates, blueberries, currants and just a note of hibiscus flowers. Janey says this would be the wine she would choose to have in a desert isla ...morend scenario. A Hummer wrapped in a juicy berry pie, big, powerful and a touch obnoxious. The vineyard is just a stones throw for the tiny one store town of Comptche, 40 minutes north of the Savoy Vineyard and at a slightly higher elevation. The 2004 is comprised of 5 different clones from two different sections of the vineyard. The clones aid in the complexity and overall richness of the wine. She was aged in new and seasoned French Oak barrels for 11 months. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. Best enjoyed on the night of a full moon. 160 cases produced.

Mendocino

The 2005 vintage marks the third release of Amici Pinot Noir. The fruit was sourced from a hidden jewel of a vineyard, located in the coastal mountain range high above the town of ...moreMendocino. The wine is a blend of 65% Pommard clone, 30% Dijon #115 clone and 5% Dijon #777 clone. The #777 clone came from a small vineyard in Philo - a small inland town in the Mendocino (Anderson Valley) appellation. The #777 clone added color and body to the finished wine, which features cranberry, loganberry, spice and forest floor aromatics. The flavors are very concentrated and complex, with a faint hint of pepper. The 2005 Amici Pinot Noir drinks beautifully now, but will age for 7-10 years.

2005 Pinot Noir
Carneros

Our Carneros Pinot Noir comes entirely from the Toyon Vineyard, located in the Napa side of the appellation. It sits on a cool, southern facing knoll with spectacular views to San ...morePablo Bay. It was planted for us in 1998 to two clones of Pinot noir: Dijon 115 and the Swan selection. The Swan selection possesses deep, juicy black cherry, blackberry, and dark chocolate flavors with great structure. The 115 clone overlays pretty aromatics of spice, violets, and cola and bright fruit. The union of the two produces a densely flavored wine of exceptional complexity for near term enjoyment or medium term aging.

Sonoma Mountain

Perched atop Sonoma Mountain on the cool, northwestern slope, the Red Dog Vineyard is a mere 17 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The combination of elevation and exposure make this no ...morermally our coolest location. In geological terms, Sonoma Mountain is an ancient site with weathered soils that have been leached of nutrients over the eons. In this site, the vines are greeted in the Spring by the cold, harsh, maritime breezes that sweep through the area unimpeded by the lower hills in the coastal range through before thriving in the more mild summer conditions. The resultant wine rates as the most complex, nuanced and ageworthy of the Ancien Pinots.
