Elegant and well-balanced this Pinot has rich, earthy flavors, layered with robust expressions of red & black fruit character in the nose and mouth. The luxurious mouth-feel can be ...more attributed to the soft tannins and to the barrel aging regime. We used a combination of 40% new oak (80% French, 20% Hungarian) for aging.

2004 “Southern Exposure” Zinfandel Shenandoah Valley, California
The “Southern Exposure” designation for our wines denotes that we feel the wine has very special qualities. So far, we only had two wines that we felt were worthy of this honor ...more. These were our 2002 and 2003 Zinfandels that were made with grapes coming from the Original Grand Pere Vineyard which is over 100 years old. We feel that the 2004 version of this wine which was also made from grapes mostly coming from the Original Grand Pere Vineyard is worthy of becoming a member of the Southern Exposure family of wines.
The 2004 C.G. Di Arie Zinfandel, “Southern Exposure”® is an incredibly complex wine. Some of the flavors characteristic to Zinfandel as white and black pepper and brier are combined with black current (cassis) and plum which gives the wine a hint of sweetness. The finish has a spicy character with the cardamom background which makes this wine very exotic. This well balanced wine with its unusually long finish fills your mouth without being tannic. Our 2004 “Southern Exposure” Zinfandel has the elegance which compares to a well made Pinot Noir.

2003 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Blend "Miradero" Sonoma Valley
With the release of this 2003 vintage, Miradero has evolved from the Merlot dominated model of the legendary 2001 (voted Best California Merlot-CA State Fair) to a more “Medoc” ...more style wine with a higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. This classic Bordeaux blend combines the best of both old world and new. With a hefty 36% Merlot component, Miradero owes as much to the traditions and heritage of the Right Bank, such as St. Emilion, as it does to the more Cabernet-centric Left Bank but the rich black fruit and ripe, plush tannins speak of the climate and terroir of Sonoma.
The wine opens invitingly with a deep ruby color and aromas of summer blackberries with hints of vanillin and dark roasted espresso beans. Ample body in the mouth is supported by fine-grained, well integrated tannins while the flavors follow through with a dark fruit, black cherry and berry theme accented by notes of bittersweet cocoa and sweet spice and a long, lingering, harmonious finish.
While the fruit-forward ripeness and well-filled texture of this wine might lead to enjoyment this very evening, the richness and refined tannin structure would allow an additional 5-7 years of evolution in the

2005 Charbono Napa Valley Napa Valley
You may be wondering, what is Charbono? Charbono is not a common grape variety in California. There are only 84 planted acres in the entire state! Genetic testing has determined ...more it to be the same grape as Corbeau, which is grown in the Savoie region of France.
The grapes for our second release of this little known varietal come from the Frediani vineyard which is located just south of the winery here in Calistoga. Planted back in the 1920s, this vineyard produces low yields with the ultimate in flavor concentration.
The wine has a dark, almost opaque purple color. It has a full-bodied palate with flavors of raspberry, plum and chocolate with pronounced, but well-integrated tannins giving it a rich texture and long finish.
At harvest the sugar was 25.1 brix with a total acidity of 0.33 g/100 ml and a pH of 3.79. The grapes were destemmed into a small open-topped fermenter and punched down twice daily by hand. The barrels used were 35% new American oak and 65% two and three year old French oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 16 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration. 293 cases produced.
