2005 Syrah “Southern Exposure” Estate Grown
Shenandoah Valley, California

This Syrah reminds me of an old world wine. It has a deep color with dark berry aromas combined with spice and mint. It has very concentrated flavors of dark berries, which carry t ...moreo the palate, adding layers of cherry and smoke.

This is a well balanced wine has an abundance of the savory type flavors. The wine finishes with a long and lingering finish adding herbal and spicy flavors combined with smoky notes reminiscent of bacon. This is a big wine worthy of aging for several years for optimum quality.

2005 Petite Sirah Estate Grown
Shenandoah Valley, California

Petite Sirah contains generous amounts of tannin, color, and backbone. Most often used as a blender for just these reasons, it can be difficult to make a varietal wine. Understandi ...moreng these difficulties, we constructed a winemaking plan to maximize the varietal characteristics and minimize bitterness and harshness. The first step was to ensure the fruit had enough varietal character to complement their tannin and color. The grapes were harvested at the peak of ripeness to yield the maximum amount of fruit character possible. These fully mature grapes had the additional advantage of lower amounts of “green” or “harsh” tannins. In order to minimize the remaining “harsh” tannins, our Estate Petit Sirah was fermented in our stainless steel Submerged Cap Fermentation Tanks to ensure the resulting wine tannins would be “soft”. We then aged the wine in French and American oak barrels.

Inky dark purple in color the wine has an elegant nose that begins with blueberries and raspberries. Fruit gives way to cocoa and vanilla. On the palate notes of pencil shavings leads to mint, violets, smoked meats, and white pepper. The acidity in the long pleasant finish balances the tannins and

Elegant and well-balanced this Pinot has rich, earthy flavors, layered with robust expressions of red & black fruit character in the nose and mouth. 2005 Carmichael "Sur le Pont" RhĂ´ne-Styled Blend
Monterey County

Warm and inviting on the nose, initial impressions of our Sur le Pont are of spice and chocolate, with plum and black cherry fruit also prominent in the aroma. Once in the mouth, t ...morehe tactile impression broadens considerably with a warm, roasted chestnut quality across the mid-palate, which then translates seamlessly into a full finish, with plenty of soft, chalky tannins. Dark red and black fruit flavors predominate in this rich and flavorful blend. This wine goes well with grilled meats and robust tomato-based pastas. It is also wonderful with a big, juicy steak. This Sur le Pont will age nicely through 2010.

2002 Estate Vineyard Selection Chardonnay
Chalk Hill

The original Founder’s Block, planted in 1974, offers incredibly low yields of extremely concentrated fruit. By careful barrel-by-barrel selection, only eighteen barrels of the r ...moreichest, most opulent wine were chosen for this premier blend. Effusive stone fruit aromas of apricot and fig build on the floral, spice, and hazelnut notes. The wine unfolds with rich layers of golden apple, honeysuckle, nutmeg and mineral flavors— all adding texture and holding aloft clean, citrus notes that weave through to the lingering finish. The structure and firm acid balance indicates cellar worthiness.

2005 Chairman’s Club Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère
Sonoma County

Very limited in production, the 2005 Chairman’s Club Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère is a marriage of two Bordeaux varieties which captures Chalk Hill Estate’s unique personality ...more and terroir. The Carmenère is grown on a tiny, low vigor site with extremely rocky soils, perfect to harness its vigorous tendency. Hand-harvested at a mere one-half ton per acre, the Carmenère was co-fermented on skins with a low-yielding Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. Deep, dark aromas of black plum and cassis accompany graphite and exotic asian spices. This age-worthy cuvee is opulent in texture, with blackberry fruit, black olive and tobacco flavors. The lingering finish is reminiscent of dark chocolate and mocha, pairing deliciously with roasted meat dishes and artisan cheeses.

2003 Furth
Sonoma County

Bold and rare - describes the wine and the man. Furth, the wine, is the pinnacle red wine from the Chalk Hill Estate; a wine that speaks in a booming voice of its terroir. Its big ...moreflavors are assembled from old-vine blocks of Bordeaux varietals that have the personality and panache to personify Fred Furth's vision of "the best that my home estate can produce."

Produced only in exceptional years, and in minute quantities, no expense is spared in its creation. Starting with intensive care in the vineyards- handcrafting in the winery, special cooperage, extended barrel age, even its sturdy, eponymous bottle- all are steps in the creative process designed to focus the fruit into a broad, expansive, weighty wine worthy of the name.
