Folie A Deux Winery

1938 visitors

Folie Ă  Deux is the French term meaning "shared fantasies". The winery was conceived by two close friends who turned their passion for wine and mutual dream of owning a winery into reality in 1981. The distinctive twin dancers logo so closely associated with the winery was designed by a local artist to evoke the notion of a delightful shared experience. Sharing the joy of wine is something which the many visitors and fans of Folie Ă  Deux wines have come to appreciate deeply. Over the years, the Folie Ă  Deux portfolio of elite, small-production Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Amador County Zinfandel has earned accolades and awards too numerous to mention and appear on the wine lists of America's finest restaurants. The popular red and white blends called Menage Ă  Trois are delicious, approachable, affordable wines suitable with any meal.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley

97% of the 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of three different cabernet vineyards within the St. Helena appellation and as such, it is a showcase of that appellation ... moreas well as the varietal. Each one of the three vineyards is of a different age, has a separate pruning technique, and utilizes an unique watering cycle, adding layers of complexity to the wine when blended. In a long growing season such as 2005, quality was high across all of St. Helena vineyard sources because the grapes were given extended hang time to develop complex phenolicsin the grape skins.

The 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet is a powerful wine with good structure and balance. Chocolate mingles with layers of blackberry and black cherry on the palate while the well-integrated tannins provide a nice finish. Consider pairing this impressive Cabernet with a pan-seared rib-eye steak au poivre or braised lamb shank with wild mushroom risotto.

2005 Zinfandel
Amador County

Folie à Deux 2005 Amador County Zinfandel is testimony to why after nearly a century and a half, zinfandel vineyards are still being planted throughout Amador County. This home-gr ... moreown, hand-crafted Zin has a sense of place and family. Blackberries and plums infused with clove, vanilla, and anise spice bring evoke memories of Grandma’s kitchen. A powerful, yet balanced mouthfeel gives way to a silky smooth finish of spicy oak and juicy black cherry. This Zin is abundantly comfortable at the holiday table, at a backyard barbecue, or being opened for a celebration of a special occasion.

2006 Merlot
Napa Valley

The merlot for our 2006 vintage is a blend of vineyards from St.Helena, Rutherford, and South Napa. Each source varies in temperature, showcasing the differences in the Napa Valley ... more mesoclimates. Low yielding vines in the cooler regions of the Napa Valley helped produce small berries with impressive intensity while the warmer climate fruit is riper, with voluptuous texture, adding richness to the wine.

The Folie Ă  Deux 2006 Merlot will tease your nose with blueberry and blackberry, with underlying hints of vanilla and a touch of cocoa. Berry cobbler flavors with touches of nutmeg will please your palate. Our Culinary Center Chefs favor Merlot for many of our trademark dishes. The fullness and richness of our Folie a Deux Merlot is the perfect accompaniment to our Grilled Lamb Loin with Deep Fried Parsnip Chips accented with a Dried Bing Cherry Reduction. Enjoy.

2006 Chardonnay
Napa Valley

The predominance of fruit for our 2006 Chardonnay came from our cool-climate vineyards in southern Napa. While located just outside of the Carneros AVA, this gently rolling site en ... morejoys the same soils, climate and spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay as its famous neighbor. Additionally a small addition of fruit was sourced from the Carneros and neighboring Oak Knoll District appellation to provide a seductive tropical note.

Our 2006 Chardonnay delivers great balance and authority with aromas of green apple and a dash of banana with citrus on the palate accented by a hint of sweet vanilla. In the tradition of a true Burgundian-style Chardonnay, there’s an understated power that runs from start to finish.

The rich full palate combined with well-integrated acidity makes the Folie Ă  Deux Chardonnay a perfect match with one our Chef's favorite dishes including Panko-crusted Dungeness crab cakes with a coconut Thai red curry sauce.

2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Napa Valley

This is pure, unadulterated Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is a mélange of orange blossom, lemongrass, kumquat with a hint of jalapeno pepper. The palate is firm, but surprisingly rich ... more and long. While it’s absolutely delicious now, this 2006’s brisk acidity and dramatic fruit should allow it to age gracefully over the next few years. It is the perfect marriage to our chef’s char-broiled oysters with butter and garlic but is also the perfect complement to most chicken and fish dishes, and of course crusty French bread and goat cheese.

2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois Red
Napa Valley

Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separate ... morely, then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Our 2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam-like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.

2006 Ménage à Trois Rosé
Napa Valley

Good rosé is like a carnival in your mouth—and not one of your low rent carnivals. We’re talking about your really classy, country fair kind of carnival. Our 2006 Ménage à T ... morerois is the epitome of a good rosé. No pretension, no pretense. Just a fruit-laden roller coaster ride of raspberries, strawberries, lychee nuts and flowers with a silky smooth finish.

This 2006 is a madcap blend of Merlot, Syrah and GewĂĽrztraminer. The two red grapes received as 24-hour cold soak on the skins to give the wine its suggestive pinkness and luscious body. The GewĂĽrztraminer was cold fermented to preserve the exotic spice and naked fruit. No malolactic fermentation here-just crisp acidity.

2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois White
Napa Valley

The 2006 Ménage à Trois white is a trip to the islands without the worry of sunburn or bugs. It’s undeniably fruity and unabashedly easy. It’s meant to be quaffed, not analyz ... moreed. Citrus and tropical fruit flavors with crisp acidity. Dare we say it’s refreshing? With food or without, alone or with two companions, this is one of the most exhilarating experiences imaginable.

The 2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois white marries Chardonnay, Muscat and Chenin Blanc. Each variety is individually harvested, gently crushed and cold-fermented in small stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and character and retain the juicy fruit aromas. The Chardonnay is rich and firm. The Muscat is wild and exotic. The Chenin is soft and supportive. Together they make the perfect threesome.
