Rhone Blend

The Rhône wine region is first divided into north and south. The north produces syrah based reds and pure viognier whites. The south produces Châteauneuf-du-Pape and other blends from several varieties. The first cultivated vines were likely planted in 600 BC, however, the orgins of the two most important grape varieties in the northern Rhone (Syrah and Viognier) are unknown.

The luscious aromas of fruit, earthiness and leather weave complex layers throughout the wine. The finish is very long, exuding berries, spices, and butterscotch. Open a bottle of Red Ink for dinner; you will not be disappointed. It's easy to drink, and very easy to enjoy. Cheers!

Named after a star in the Canis Major constellation, our 2003 Adara is a blend of Carignane, Grenache and Syrah, three grape varietals common to the Rhone Valley of France. It has ...moresoft tannins and lively fresh fruit flavors of strawberries, plums and wild blueberries with hints of sage and lavender. Adara can be enjoyed alone or with a wide variety of foods including pasta, pork, chicken and lamb. Aged in French and American oak barrels, our production of this wine was approximately 750 cases.

These tasting notes are often based on the winemaker’s notes. Well, this time he told me that this %@#$! had aromas of peaches and butter. Have you ever buttered a peach? Just weir ...mored if you ask me. Then he goes on to mention creamy flavors of pear and truffles. Okay, now we have peaches and butter and pears and mushrooms. Is this insane or what? Well, I can tell you that this %@#$! is a lot yummier than that, and has body and character almost like a red wine. And it will even lay down for a few years. How cool is that? (as seen in the July 13, 2007 Wall Street Journal!)

This wine is a rich blend of 62% Marsanne and 38% Roussanne.

2005 Lapsus, Rhone-style Blend

Our 2005 Lapsus marries our Amarrosa Roussanne with our Quinlin Viognier. This year features a little more oak time on the Roussanne which doesn't come accross as oak so much in th ...moree Lapsus, but vanilla. In the Condrieu appellation of France, Viognier is the only allowed white wine varietal. A few miles down the Rhône on the opposite bank is Hermitage where Roussanne and Marsanne are the only allowed whites. Legend has it that when the Chevalier Gaspard de Stérimberg returned wounded from the Albigeois crusades in 1224, he cloistered himself within the tiny hamlet on the hill that now bears his description, Hermitage, and refused to speak for the remainder of his pious life. Surrounded as he was with spectacular vineyards he did some winemaking, and discovered the virtues of a unique blend of his local Roussanne with up river Viognier. Appearing to us in a dream, the garrulous Saint, though taciturn in life, revealed his secret in a Lapsus Lengua, slip of the tongue, and the blend, as well as the name of this wine was born. Raise a glass of Lapsus to the good St. Stérimberg.

Medium red purple in color. Ripe, rich Rhone aromas. The nose shows dark cherries, raspberries and a hint of mocha chocolate. Cinnamon and spicy fullness in mid-palate, with a gene ...morerous, yet soft and lingering finish. The composition of the newly released '05 is a bit bolder than our '04. Now with 40% Mourvedre, 30% Syrah and 30% Grenache, this makes for a bombshell of a wine, but certainly not lacking a sense of stylish structure. This is Paso Robles Rhone at its best. Enjoy now or cellar 3-5 years.

The structure is centered around the Petite Syrah with clusters of early fruit from the Tempranillo and Merlot and a full-bodied blueberry finish from the Estate Syrah. Enjoy for a long time.
