Twisted Oak Winery

1877 visitors

Built on a hillside, Twisted Oak Winery uses old-world gravity flow techniques, allowing gentle movement of the grapes, juice and wine throughout the winemaking process. The grapes are received and carefully inspected at the top level. A hopper then drops the grapes to the crusher located on the level immediately beneath it. A pump gently nudges the must in through the top of the fermentation tanks on the next level down.

2005 Petite Sirah
Calaveras County

This Petite Sirah comes from the Salt Springs valley in Calaveras. It is an early ripener with great natural tannin structure that does not inhibit the darker ripe fruit character ... mores. The 2005 growing season started with a late bloom followed by a fairly average warming season which enabled us to acclimate the vines to the intense summer in this warm region. The fruit load was thinned to a projected 2.5 tons per acre, quite a small crop for these rich deep soils. To achieve full maturation of fruit without sacrificing natural acidity, we harvested this in the middle of September.

2005 Asterisk Percent Pound Ampersand At Exclamation
Calaveras County

Arrrr, ye scurvy dogs! Sailing the seas of cheese once again is everyone's favorite chumbucket. Sounds like Cluck, pairs with Duck...what more can we say without gettin' keelhauled ... more and sent to walk the plank?? Well we can tell you that this year's wine is a blend of Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache; a broadside of boysenberry and raspberry flavors. Just the thing to"splice the mainbrace", if you know what we mean....

This wine is a rich blend of 51% Mourvedre, 33% Syrah, and 16% Grenache.

These tasting notes are often based on the winemaker’s notes. Well, this time he told me that this %@#$! had aromas of peaches and butter. Have you ever buttered a peach? Just we ... moreird if you ask me. Then he goes on to mention creamy flavors of pear and truffles. Okay, now we have peaches and butter and pears and mushrooms. Is this insane or what? Well, I can tell you that this %@#$! is a lot yummier than that, and has body and character almost like a red wine. And it will even lay down for a few years. How cool is that? (as seen in the July 13, 2007 Wall Street Journal!)

This wine is a rich blend of 62% Marsanne and 38% Roussanne.

2004 Murgatroyd
Calaveras County

With a name like “Murgatroyd” you might expect this wine to smell and taste like a pink mountain lion. While this wine is as dry and intense as a night in the desert, and its s ... morepice and herbal aromas might be the result of a romp in the sagebrush, nothing could be further from the truth. Deep brick red color, bright aromas of plum and blueberry, and full fruit flavors of raspberries, currants and vanilla, are certainly nothing like a pink mountain lion. Then again... why is he pink?

Murgatroyd is a blend of several varietals and the kitchen sink - and is in no way a rosé!

Rarezitas Torcidas (rah-ruh-ZEE-tas Tor-SEE-das), [SP] n pl., 1. literally, Twisted Little Freaks, 2. A bunch of gnarly Spanish clone Grenache vines (Spain is the new France) growi ... moreng on a hillside in Vallecito that produce this killer combination of bright fragrance and bold fruit that you are currently drooling all over the table waiting to taste... er, here's a towel.

Torcido is made from Grenache grapes grown in our own vineyards in Vallecito - totally Estate Grown, dude!

The Twisted Oath: I, state your name, do solemnly swear that I am AT LEAST 21 years of age, I am allowed to cross the street by myself, and I clean up my own messes (mostly). I pro ... moremise to be faithfully Twisted in thought, word, and deed, without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, personal hygiene, or hairstyle, and will to the best of my ability, uphold this glass, with its aromas of dark berry and leather, plummy flavors and firm tannins before consuming it forthwith.

Syrah is a varietal that is the major component of the great wines of the Rhone valley.

2005 Verdelho
Silvaspoons Vineyard, Alta Mesa

After its debut last year, we found that most people cut straight to the chase and called this Verdelho simply, "Bordello". While it is true that this sinfully delicious wine will ... moremake you want to put on the red light... walk the streets for money... those days are over. You don't have to sell your body to the night. You don't have to wear that dress tonight!!

Verdleho is a varietal from Portugal that produces crisp dry white wines.
