2005 The Mask
Napa Valley

While some wines are crafted to be savored and cellared, others embody a more easy-going charm. Reflecting our desire to create a red wine filled with rich, fruit character at an a ...morepproachable price, we are pleased to unveil The Mask—a second label wine using great Napa Valley grapes.

The 2005 growing season was a winemaker’s dream—delivering big crops of amazing fruit. In fact, in anticipation of the “bumper’ 2005 yields, we dropped large amounts of grapes to create added-depth and concentration in our Cabernet Sauvignon. Even so, we found ourselves with more fruit than we needed to craft the small-lot, 500-case bottling of our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon—a wonderful dilemma to have. Inspired by this abundance of top fruit, we took a playful detour in our winemaking journey, to create a vibrant red that’s just plain fun to drink.

Blending a bit of whimsy and adventure, The Mask brings together a selection of our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, with some tasty up-valley Zinfandel, and a touch of Syrah. Wrapped around a Cabernet core, the Zinfandel adds sweet fruit notes, while the Syrah brings a hint of RhĂŽne-inspired structure and richness. The fateful result is a

2004 Revelation
Santa Barbara County

Comprised of 60% Syrah, 35% Grenache and 5% Petite Sirah, the 2004 offering is dense, dark purple in color and shows exotic aromas of black cherry, plum, smoke and pepper.
...morer> The palate is full-bodied with jammy blackberry liqueur flavors accented by enticing spice box, leather, vanilla and peppery notes. It is balanced, long on the finish and thoroughly rewarding.

We aged this wine for over two years in one- and two-year-old barrels (80% French and 20% American oak) to add complexity and texture.

2004 Gypsy
Santa Barbara County

In the past, Gypsy was comprised of 100% Grenache. But with such an eclectic name, we decided the wine needed to be something a bit unique as well. So, this years Gypsy is a blend ...moreof 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah. 60% of the grapes are from the Camp 4 Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley & 40% are from Rodney’s Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. After aging for 26 months in 30% New French & American Oak, we bottled the wine and came up with the wine you are now enjoying!

The combination of these three grapes brings out a very balanced wine. Mourvedre tends to be an intense wine heavy on tannins, but the fruit and richness of the Grenache tends to soften the grape while the spice and body of the Syrah gives it structure. On the nose of the Gypsy, there are hints of black cherry, allspice, vanilla and hints of leather followed by a silky smooth texture on the pallet with a light vanilla finish.

This wine will pair nicely with pizza, pasta, grilled or roasted meats like Dad’s pork chops on the grill and root vegetables. Enjoy the Gypsy while you can because, as the name suggests, it won’t be around for long!

2005 Mario’s Gran Roja Tres Appellation Blend
Sonoma County

Our father is always asking us to make a “big, chewy, full-bodied red.” This wine is made and named for him. We took our Alexander Valley Cab, our Cole Ranch Merlot, some Syrah ...more from our new Everett Ridge property, and added a tincture of Bacigalupi Petite Sirah. We arrived at a very good bottle of wine. And we priced the wine to make it a terrific value. The Gran Roja (Spanish for “Big Red”) begins with ripe blackberry, plum and oak scents. The mouth has wonderful flavors of juicy dark cherry, plum and spice, with medium tannins. The finish is long and spicy. While it will pair well with the fare that accompanies a traditional Bordeaux wine, Gran Roja is terrific by itself. 498 cases.

2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois Red
Napa Valley

MĂ©nage Ă  Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows: Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and retain character, each variety was fermented separate ...morely, then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Our 2006 MĂ©nage Ă  Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam-like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats or chicken.

A combination of earth and spice [earth from the Petite Verdot and spice from the Caberne ...moret Sauvignon] is written all over this wine, with a mid-pallet complexity of blackberry, dates and a hint of anise.
The aftertaste is more Cabernet driven - dark chocolate.
Well balanced acidity and the good structure of tannins will make this a keeper and would probably show more potential if you have the patience to keep it. It has been aged for 27 months in 100% French Oak barrels - 50% new and 50% second fill.

Husch Vineyards

2006 Mojo Red

Husch has seen several generations of family over the years and now the fourth generation is toddling through the winery. At age 5 Morgan Joseph ('Mojo') isn't quite a full fledged ...more winemaker, but he is a favorite with tasting room staff and visitors.

Our goal with the wine has not changed. You can still expect a Cabernet Sauvignon based wine that is affordable and ready to drink tonight. With the 2006 vintage we blended Cabernet Sauvignon (71%) and Carignane (29%). Approach this wine with high expectations; despite the price this wine is hand crafted in small batches.

The 2006 vintage offers a deep garnet color. Aromas reminisce of black cherry and blackberry -- with a hint of tobacco and clove. The wine offers similar flavors, a nice structure, and a little smoke on the finish.

Mojo Red is meant to be enjoyed while young (it is served as the "house red" at many Mendocino County restaurants) and is an excellent affordable choice for a large gathering. Try it with grilled steaks, pasta, pizza or your favorite burger.

2003 Grand Oz

It was our Grandfather – “Grand Oz” - who introduced our family to grape-growing and wine. A longtime farmer, HA Oswald, Jr. grew some of Mendocino County’s best grapes at ...morethe family vineyard and produced some of the region’s finest wines. While every bottle of Husch carries his name we thought it fitting that this exclusive wine be named in his honor.

The inaugural vintage of Grand Oz is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend – using the best fruit from HA Oswald’s home ranch combined with the best barrels in the winery. With only two barrels produced (540 bottles) this wine was nurtured from vineyard to bottle with extreme pride and care. Each bottle of Grand Oz was hand numbered, wax sealed and signed by third generation family owners, Zac Robinson and Amanda Holstine.

Understated and refined, this vintage is true to character. The dark Cabernet Sauvignon fruit shows rich cassis flavors with hints of cedar and eucalyptus. The beautiful bright fruit of the Syrah also brings an element of leather and smoke. The lower alcohol (12.4%) of this vintage allows it to pair well with food as well as age gracefully in the bottle.
