2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Santa Ynez Valley

As a grapevine, sauvignon blanc is pretty easy-going. It grows well without needing a lot of pampering and will produce a hearty yield if left to its own devices. But at Buttonwood ... more, sauvignon blanc is nurtured, manicured and gardened to produce a carefully calculated crop of glorious golden clusters. Sauvignon Blanc is after all, Buttowood's signature wine and we rest our reputation on this time-honored grape. The 2006 Buttonwood Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, refreshing and focused. A pale straw color glistens in the glass and encourages a swirl that results in a somewhat exotic bouquet of kiwi, guava and lemon-lime jumping from the glass. On the palate, the wine is light and lively, with honeydew melon, lemon zest and a hint of fennel complemented by the creamy, round textural components from the semillon. The finish is lasting, sleek and citrusy.

We love Buttonwood Sauvignon Blanc with seafood- crab cakes, scallops, and almond encrusted halibut.

2006 Marsanne
Santa Ynez Valley

Marsanne is one of two Rhone varietals grown in the Buttonwood Farm vineyard. While interest in all of the Rhone varietals is increasing, Buttonwood remains one of the few Californ ... moreia wineries to produce this unique white wine. 2006 Marsanne is a delicate beauty. Subtle flavors of fig, pear and spice tease the taste buds while the light body and pleasantly tart finish make it a fine accompaniment with many first course dishes.

Serve Marsanne with butternut squash soup drizzled with cream and sprinkled with ground cumin.

2005 Devin
Santa Ynez Valley

The 2005 Devin blends substantial portions of both sauvignon blanc and semillon in a variation on our sauvignon blanc theme. 100% barrel fermentation, partial malolactic fermentati ... moreon, and extended sur lies aging imbue this stunning marriage of rich semillon and sassy sauvignon blanc with light touches of oak and butter. The wonderful gooseberry and ruby grapefruit flavors melt into a slightly toasted finish which adds dimension and warmth to the sassy fruit flavors.

Try it with fettucini tossed with artichokes, sundried tomatoes and chicken in a creamy garlic sauce.

2002 Trevin
Santa Ynez Valley

Trevin (our proprietary name for our merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon blend) represents the quintessence of our vineyard. Each vintage the winemaker hits upon the blend t ... morehat showcases the best elements of Trevin's three components. The 2002 vintage shows smooth black cherry and cedar flavors in a framework of warm earthy richness and solid tannins. As with all of our red wines, Trevin is a great food wine which will age gracefully for years to come.

Serve Trevin with garlic rubbed leg of lamb served with herbed root vegetables.

2004 Merlot
Santa Ynez Valley

The 2004 growing season produced a small crop of merlot which was crushed and fermeneted with Pasteur red yeast for three weeks before pressing off, then racked to French oak barre ... morels where it aged for nineteen months. The addition of cabernet franc adds structure and a bit of spiciness to the final product. Aromas of sweet cherry, anise, and clove give way to flavors of forest floor, cedar, clove, black raspberry and oak. A firm backbone of tannin supports the wine without getting in the way of the flavor and ensures the wine will age for years to come. But don't wait years to try it!

Serve 2004 Merlot with duck breasts braised in a merlot, dried apricot and dried cherry sauce.

2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
Santa Ynez Valley

The 2003 growing season offered plenty of warmth and sunshine, just the right conditions to grow flavorful cabernet sauvignon. After two and a half weeks of fermentation, the caber ... morenet went into 60 and 90 gallon French oak barrels for 26 months of aging. Sporting flavors of dusty plum and tobacco with a pleasantly dry finish, 2003 Buttonwood Cabernet Sauvignon offers the best in Santa Ynez Valley cabernet: attractive flavors supported by gentle tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the classic red wine. Try it with a classic beef dish like grilled New York steak topped with a dab of garlic butter.

2003 Cabernet Franc
Santa Ynez Valley

Cabernet Franc grapes produce wine with distinctive herbaceous and spicy flavors. Those who appreciate its flavors exol its virtues and exhibit extreme loyalty and enthusiasm. Coun ... moret Buttonwood among those franc aficionados- we even organize a "Franc Fest" dedicated to the wonderful qualities of Cabernet Franc. While we originally planted cabernet franc to blend with merlot, it's also a component of Trevin as well as this very Bordeaux-like varietal cabernet franc.

Cabernet Franc is the consummate food wine and pairs well with grilled foods of all kind- even smoked or grilled turkey.

2004 Syrah-Cabernet
Santa Ynez Valley

Our vineyard location allows us to grow a variety of grapes that welcome plenty of summer sunshine and warm, lazy days. We are fortunate that in addition to Bordeaux varietals that ... more we are known for, the grapes traditionally grown in France's Rhone Valley also feel at home here. That makes it possible to create wines of more complexity than we could with just one type or the other. Our winemaker knows there's a certain magic that occurs when the lively flavors of syrah meet rich earthy cabernet. Syrah is full of bright spicy berry flavor and a 43% infusion of cabernet adds a rich undertone of dusty plum and dried leaves.

The exciting flavors of 2004 Buttonwood Syrah-Cabernet will pair perfectly with a pork tenderloin coated with minced garlic and Herbs d' Provence and oven-braised with chunks of potato, carrot, parsnip and sweet potato.

2006 Hawk Red
Santa Ynez Valley

Labeled with an image from the brush of artist and Buttonwood partner Seyburn Zorthian, Hawk Red is named for one of the "natural partners" that populate the Buttonwood Farm Vineya ... morerd. As harvest draws near, hawks can be seen circling high above the vineyard, performing the essential service of discouraging grape-eating linnets and starlings from ravaging the vines. The mighty hawks of harvest are an awesome sight to behold and we are proud to count them among our fellow inhabitants here at Buttonwood.

Enjoy this everyday table wine with a variety of food from simple stews to fancy roasts.

2006 Syrah Rosé
Santa Ynez Valley

Five years ago it seemed as though no "serious wine person" would be caught dead drinking pink wine. Embarrassing ghosts of white zinfandels past haunted many a wine sensibility. H ... moreowever, in just a few short years, dry roses have become perfectly respectable, even sought after by wine aficionados everywhere. And why not? Europeans have been quaffing rosy wines at lunchtime for eons. Roses are low in alcohol, light on the palate, you serve them chilled and, like sparkling wine, they go with just about anything. The succulent watermelon hue of 2006 Buttonwood Syrah Rose is the result of 4 hours of skin contact while whole cluster pressing after harvest. Cold fermentation of six weeks and four months of stainless steel aging preserve the just-picked juicy flavors that suggest pineapple and banana along with strawberry that follows through from the aroma.

Serve this rose well chilled with a salad of cheese stuffed tortellini, red bells, Bermuda onion, kalamata olives, and freshly chopped basil.

Our newest release has been one of our barrel favorites. This zinfandel spent 24 months in American and European Oak and was seasoned with 5% petite sirah. It has a dark purple color and is wonderfully smooth and fruity with the characteristic zinfandel spice.
