2004 Gypsy Santa Barbara County
In the past, Gypsy was comprised of 100% Grenache. But with such an eclectic name, we decided the wine needed to be something a bit unique as well. So, this years Gypsy is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah. 60% of the grapes are from the Camp 4 Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley & 40% are from Rodney’s Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. After aging for 26 months in 30% New French & American Oak, we bottled the wine and came up with the wine you are now enjoying!
The combination of these three grapes brings out a very balanced wine. Mourvedre tends to be an intense wine heavy on tannins, but the fruit and richness of the Grenache tends to soften the grape while the spice and body of the Syrah gives it structure. On the nose of the Gypsy, there are hints of black cherry, allspice, vanilla and hints of leather followed by a silky smooth texture on the pallet with a light vanilla finish.
This wine will pair nicely with pizza, pasta, grilled or roasted meats like Dad’s pork chops on the grill and root vegetables. Enjoy the Gypsy while you can because, as the name suggests, it won’t be around for long! |
