Epiphany Cellars
Rate this wine

2004 Gypsy
Santa Barbara County

In the past, Gypsy was comprised of 100% Grenache. But with such an eclectic name, we decided the wine needed to be something a bit unique as well. So, this years Gypsy is a blend ...moreof 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah. 60% of the grapes are from the Camp 4 Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley & 40% are from Rodney’s Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley. After aging for 26 months in 30% New French & American Oak, we bottled the wine and came up with the wine you are now enjoying!

The combination of these three grapes brings out a very balanced wine. Mourvedre tends to be an intense wine heavy on tannins, but the fruit and richness of the Grenache tends to soften the grape while the spice and body of the Syrah gives it structure. On the nose of the Gypsy, there are hints of black cherry, allspice, vanilla and hints of leather followed by a silky smooth texture on the pallet with a light vanilla finish.

This wine will pair nicely with pizza, pasta, grilled or roasted meats like Dad’s pork chops on the grill and root vegetables. Enjoy the Gypsy while you can because, as the name suggests, it won’t be around for long!

2005 Mario’s Gran Roja Tres Appellation Blend
Sonoma County

Our father is always asking us to make a “big, chewy, full-bodied red.” This wine is made and named for him. We took our Alexander Valley Cab, our Cole Ranch Merlot, some Syrah ...more from our new Everett Ridge property, and added a tincture of Bacigalupi Petite Sirah. We arrived at a very good bottle of wine. And we priced the wine to make it a terrific value. The Gran Roja (Spanish for “Big Red”) begins with ripe blackberry, plum and oak scents. The mouth has wonderful flavors of juicy dark cherry, plum and spice, with medium tannins. The finish is long and spicy. While it will pair well with the fare that accompanies a traditional Bordeaux wine, Gran Roja is terrific by itself. 498 cases.

2003 Charbono
Graziano Vineyard, Mendocino County

Common 50 years ago, acreage is now at 83 in California, up from a low of 47 left in the world only five years ago. It nearly disappeared because all the Charbono left was old head ...more-pruned vines that were severely virused and weak. Struggling to ripen their fruit, the big clusters become vulnerable to mildew and rot from early rains. Only the most patient growers can wait long enough for maturity. One of Napa Valley's original wineries, Inglenook, produced memorable Charbono, many of which still retain their drinkability 20 years later. Our flagship wine, this lovely relic is enjoying a rebirth and finding fans all over the country.

2003 Romance of the Heart
Napa Valley

This is a new red blend we have come up with. You may ask "What is the difference between this and Seduction"? Most of the grapes that went into Romance of the Heart came from a vi ...moreneyard block that had been grafted from Merlot to Cabernet Sauvignon. 2003 was the first year the grafted vines had produced fruit. These grapes were a bit young at the time for the Seduction blend, so we kept it in barrels for another 2 years.

This is a very elegant wine with a wonderful nose - it has notes of deep, dark blackberry and plum with hints of vanilla, tobacco and spice. It has a smooth supple entry with a rich, round mid-palate that is elegant in style finishing with soft tannins.

Composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the back label reads:

Extend to me the hand of conversation

Twirl me with laughter

Embrace me with kindness

Will you be mine for a moment

Or a lifetime?
