The fruit flavors are dense, and the tannins mature – byproducts of careful winemaking and an indication the wine will age well. I think of this as Old World style, a classic Right Bank Bordeaux blend reflecting Carneros terroir. A serious Merlot, the wine is rich, complex and lasting.
The 2001 Carneros Merlot has both substance and structure, a tasteful match for full-flavored lamb or wild duck dishes. I also confidently pair this rich wine with spicy, salty dishes such as Spaghetti alla Puttanesca.

Intense and uncompromising, not a soft ...more rich experience – this is a specimen of an extinct species! Very dark color, showing little evolution. Powerful bouquet of great complexity and depth (berries, musk, tar, earth, spices, tobacco). Lean, compact, tight, and austere in the mouth, with high acid, red-berry fruit and (very) powerful dry tannins. Very high extract, intense flavors, very long, dry finish. Decanting for several hours prior to serving is highly recommended. Serve with roasted meats and powerful sauces, mature cheeses or any fine steak.
