Bordeaux

4207 visitors
Red Bordeaux, which is traditionally known as claret in the United Kingdom, is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carmenere. Today Malbec is very seldom used, and Carmenere is used in tiny quantities. An example of a famous château that uses Carmenere is Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux.

White Bordeaux, including the sweet Sauternes, is made from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.

A Bordeaux-blend of 50 percent cabernet franc, 25 percent cabernet sauvignon, and 25 percent merlot. Gobs of red and black fruit combine to make this a deep, intriguing wine. Licor ...moreice, cedar, black currants and spicy oak. Exuberance with plenty of depth, richness, and subtle complexity make this wine a "best buy". Putting on weight in the bottle and taking on an elegantly pretty velvety texture. This wine has at least a 10 to 15 year life ahead of it. We are now into our last pallet of this wine so if you want it, don't delay.

2004 SAGE
Paso Robles

This Bordeaux blend is unique! A blend of 50% Malbec/50% Petit Verdot, most wineries wouldn’t dare put these two varietals together without some percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon or ...more Merlot because of the high tannic structure. But we thought differently. Hints of raisins, plum, and tobacco from the Malbec paired with blackcurrants and the lovely scent of violets from the Petit Verdot make this wine both great to drink now or in 15 years.

2003 Odyssey
St. Helena

We call this wine ODYSSEY because each vintage takes us on a journey to blend the finest fruit from our Odyssey Vineyard located 1,350 feet above the valley floor.

The 2 ...more003 is comprised of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 29% Merlot, and 1% Syrah. It is blended to express the essence of our vineyards on Atlas Peak. The texture is rich, giving a wonderful “mouth feel.” While not one of the varietals dominates the flavor, one still has the impression of Napa Valley Cabernet. There are “layers” of flavors, with black cherry predominating while nuances of white pepper, chocolate and cinnamon are present. This is a great example of the winemaker’s “art” of blending varietals to make the sum add up to more than the “parts.” While very approachable now, we believe this wine will easily age for 8 to 10 years with its tannin structure.

2003 Trifecta
Napa County

Our third Trifecta is also off to a great start! 2003 gave the grapes a long time to ripen while keeping sugars in check and acidity in balance.
A swirl of this deep garnet ...more wine relases elegant aromas of spicy berries, leather and sweet alcohol. The palate is bright with youthful acidity, highlighting flavors of blackberry, black cherry, cocoa with a generous amount of toasted coconut contributed by the American and French oak. Tannins are grippy and the finish is amazing.
This is a wine you'll want to have stashed in your cellar, to savor over the next 5 to 12 years to come. If you can't wait that long, enjoy it tonight with grilled steaks, spice-rubbed chicken and rosemary roasted lamb. A votr Sante!
