Viognier
|
2006 Viognier Calaveras County
This fabled grape, once grown only in very small quantities in the northern Rhone Valley in France, is now cultivated in many regions of the world, including our little vineyard. W ... moree planted Viognier in 2004 on rich clay/loam soils, and have vinified it to express all the things we find attractive about the variety; deep aromas of peaches and honeysuckle, broad and powerful palate, and a clean, fresh finish, unencumbered by new oak. It may be our richest and most opulent white wine we've ever produced, and is a great match for salmon and sea bass or enjoyed with creamy cheeses like St Andre and Camembert.

Cabernet Sauvignon

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Calaveras County
Of all the Foothill counties, Calaveras is considered by many to be particularly well suited to Bordeaux varieties. Our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is further proof. The very warm days ... more and mild nights, along with the rocky, well-drained soils along Pennsylvania Gulch Road suit this most venerable of French varieties just fine. Concentrated and focused, with sweet, ripe tannins, this wine delivers complex, rich fruit, with none of the veggie character often found in the coastal valley cabs. It is round and velvety, and ready to enjoy today with hearty dishes like barbecued ribs, a juicy rib-eye or steak fajitas.

2006 Rock White Calaveras County
Our flagship white wine, and first ever White Rock, this blend of Chardonnay and Viognier is a classy and delicious example of the European winemaking tradition. We used a high per ... morecentage of new French oak barrels, allowed the wine to ferment with the natural yeast present on the grapes when they were crushed, and aged the wine on the yeast sediment for 10 months after fermentation to enhance complexity. The result is a smooth, voluptuous, layered wine, with baked apple and lemon drop aromas, and lots of toasty oak. Compare this wine with the best of California’s Chardonnays.

Merlot

2005 Merlot Calaveras County
Once an American favorite, Merlot has lost some of its appeal in recent years due to over cropping and slipshod winemaking. However, it's past popularity and continued use througho ... moreut the world attests to its potential to make outstanding, well balanced wine. In our vineyard we have planted Merlot on the rockiest, best drained section of the property, where the vines work hard to produce small berries with thick skins and very low yields. Our 2005 Merlot is a rich, potent wine, loaded with ripe cherry and black olive aromas and extremely broad and velvety on the palate. It's a great companion to casual fare, including pizza, lamb stew, hamburgers and chops
