Wine Guide > Dolcetto

8273 visitors
Dolcetto is a well-known black wine grape variety widely grown in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy.
The name means little sweet one, though it is nearly always a dry wine. Dolcetto is usually made into fast maturing, fruity and robust dark red wine with faintly bitter flavor. It tends to have a dark, rich color with a fruity nose - usually blackberry and blueberry.
Dolcetto goes especially well with Italian cuisine. The best known varietal wines made from it are both from the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy: Dolcetto d’Alba is made in the Langhe near Alba (province of Cuneo); and Dolcetto d’Asti is made in the southeast part of the province of Asti.

Dolcetto plays a minor role in the Australian wine industry, being overshadowed by other Italian red wine varieties.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with game meats and pork, prosciutto and salami. Pour Dolcetto with a country meal of roasted game hen, asparagus and mushrooms. After dinner enjoy with blue cheese and pears.

2004 Athena Dolcetto

Our 2004 "Athena" Dolcetto is a fruity delight wine with notes of raspberry, strawberry and sweet cherry.

Crafted with 100% Dolcetto grapes, a varietal native to northern ...moreItaly. This wine has an inviting high fruity-ness and low tannin, with a soft and supple mouth-feel, making it ideal for early consumption. This is a remarkably food friendly wine as well as a good “bridge wine” for those just learning to appreciate red wines or even of white wine aficionados. We recommend chilling “Athena” slightly before serving for added enjoyment.

2005 Private Reserve Dolcetto
Santa Clara Valley

Sorry, this vintage has sold out. At this time we have no plans for the next Dolcetto.

This distinctive Ca ...morel-Italia wine is a result of our continuing commitment to introduce small lots of new and exciting wines to the members of our Guglielmo Wine Group. This very limited release will be primarily available only in our Tasting Room. The Dolcetto (dohl-chet-toe) grape is native to Northern Italy’s Piedmonte foothills - the region our grandparents came from. Pair this with a great tomato-based pasta dish and before you know it your mind will conjure images of a leisurely dinner at a sidewalk café in Torino.

Produced from 100% Dolcetto grown in Santa Barbara County, the wine opens with an inviting array of aromas including raspberry, vanilla, smoky cedar and anise. On the palate tangy cranberry fruit flavors and well-integrated tannins linger like an Italian sunset. The rich fruit and soft spice is perfect with a variety of richly flavored foods, especially Italian! This special limited bottling produced 250 cases.
