Loxton Cellars

144 visitors

It is the intent of Loxton Cellars to be a "reference point" producer of Syrah and Zinfandel. This focus reflects the interests and passion of the owner/winemaker, Chris Loxton, an Australian brought up on a Shiraz vineyard in South Australia, but now living in California where Zinfandel is the adopted grape.

2006 Rosé, Vin Gris of Syrah
Sonoma Valley

My favorite summertime wine is a dry, crisp Rosé and this year’s version is similar to the 2005 and again comes from the vines in front of the winery, blended with grapes from Salm ... moreina vineyard. I bottled the wine with a screw cap to preserve the freshness and delicacy of this wine. Screwcaps are quite rapidly becoming the closure of choice for delicate wines and I expect them to make major strides with all wines in the next few years. 240 cases produced.

2005 Gopfrich Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

I’ve been a fan of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel ever since working two harvests at Quivira. When I got the chance to get some fruit from Ray Gopfrich’s vineyard near the west end of ... morethe valley, I jumped at it. This Zinfandel has crisp raspberry fruit, nice tannins and will be even better by late summer. Should continue to improve for 3-5 years. 185 cases produced.

2003 Englandcrest Syrah
Sonoma Valley

While the 2003 Rubaiyat has very elegant and feminine qualities, the EnglandCrest shows the bigger and more brawny side of Syrah. From the vineyard blocks surrounding the winery, i ... moret has big sweet cherry fruit, smoky oak and bigger yet balanced tannins. Should improve for some time. 192 cases produced.

2003 Mcgraw Cabernet Sauvignon
Sonoma Valley

John and Lynne McGraw’s Cabernet vineyard is ideally located on a south-facing hillside that can be seen just west of the winery. Cabernet needs this extra heat to fully ripen here ... more in the valley. I’m now using this fruit to make a great Cabernet Shiraz blend. This wine though, is 100% Cabernet and shows classic Cabernet characteristics. 100 cases produced.

2005 Hawk Hill Chardonnay
Russian River Valley

My style of Chardonnay has crisp acidity and not too much oak. Since it’s release in the fall, it has gained more richness to augment the citrus fruit notes and clean finish.

2004 Shiraz
Sonoma Valley

The Shiraz is softer and lighter than the Hillside blend and is the first Syrah wine released from the 2004 vintage. It is from three vineyards here in the valley all planted with ... moreAustralian clones.
