| The vineyards are now replanted to Sangiovese, Zinfandel and Merlot, with a little bit of Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah for fun and blending, respectively. We started harvesting our first crops from the estate in 1998, Sangiovese in 1999. The soil and climate at Benessere, clay-loam with gravelly bands, are perfect for growing Sangiovese and Merlot. The 2005 Sorridente is a big wine that has great aging potential. The deep purple hue is consistent with the blackberry, plum nose. There are notes of cocoa powder and rose petal and a definitive "Italianesque" bouquet that makes itself more apparent after the wine opens in the glass. It is an excellent pair with substantial dishes such as rack of lamb, veal shank and aged, hard cheeses. Enjoy at joyous occasions both grand and humble.

This wine has aromas and flavors of dark, ripe cherries and plums, with notes of creamy and toasty oak, and a hint of vanilla. It is perfect to share with friends and family and to toast all joyous occasions. It will age well for the next decade or more.
This is the fifth release of our “Super-Napan” estate blend called “Phenomenon”. The blending of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah is a relatively new “phenomenon” for California. As such, we think it is fitting to name our wine after this occurrence. It is also patterned after some of the “Super-Tuscan” wines of Italy; wines which have crossed the boundaries of regulations and tradition, utilizing superior grape clones and artisan blending to make the best wine possible.
