After working closely together as grape grower and winemaker since 1990, Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield merged their talents to create Dutton Goldfield Winery in 1998. Our mission is to craft world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (along with a touch of Zinfandel and Syrah) that display the brightness of fruit, complexity, structure and balance that are reflective of our cool coastal home in and around the Russian River Valley. | Sebastopol, CA Phone: (707) 823-3887 Website: http://www.duttongoldfield.com Appellation: Green Valley of Russian River Valley Tasting Room: Please come visit us in our new home at the Balletto & Dutton Goldfield Tasting Room located at 5700 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa.

2006 Dutton Goldfield Dutton Ranch Chardonnay Russian River Valley
THE VINEYARD
Dutton Ranch farms over sixty unique, separate vineyards located in the coolest areas of the Russian River Valley, primarily in the Green Valley appellation. Da ... moren and Steve select their favorite Dutton Ranch vineyards to craft a wine reflecting our vision of classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay. The vineyards we choose are based on our desire to offer wines with fruit intensity, great acid structure and richness, even after full barrel and malolactic fermentation. Mill Station, Rued, Schwartz and Walker Hill are all old vine (greater than 30 years), old clone vineyards located in the cold heart of Green Valley. They provide the beautiful citrus backbone, spicy floral nose, and tropical and mineral overtones of this offering. Morelli Lane Vineyard, planted to the Hyde clone of Chardonnay, is located high on top of Stoetz Ridge on the west side of the valley, and contributes notes of stone fruit and pear to the wine.
WINEMAKING
The individual lots are barrel fermented using a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast strains. They undergo malolactic fermentation, and the lees are stirred twice monthly. The blend is assembled, with the primary lees, in early

2005 Rued Vineyard Chardonnay Rued Vineyard, Green Valley-Russian River Valley
In 2005, Mother Nature gave Russian River the kind of year we always hope for, but don't often get. We had early budbreak, then great vine growth from late spring rains; perfect fl ... moreowering conditions for the chards, followed by a cool summer and moderate, dry late harvest weather. Consequently, the fruit ripened slowly and evenly; retaining its acid while building flavor and concentration. We were rewarded with a Rued offering of particular density, balance and longevity, even for this vineyard. It draws one in with aromas of pear, lychee, lilac, ginger and toffee. In the mouth it continues the orgy of opulence, but balanced with moderate alcohol and bright acidity which enables the fresh spiced pear and tropical fruit to shine through to the finish. Clearly this is a special vintage of a special wine for us. Dan loves nothing more than great aged chardonnays, and this one should certainly fit that bill in 5 to 15 years. In the meantime, it will show wonderfully now with almost any lobster or crab dish, or a roasted game bird. 564 cases. 95 points, Wine Enthusiast.

2006 Pinot Blanc Shop Block, Russian River Valley
When Steve said he had a couple of rows of Pinot Blanc at the main Dutton Ranch Shop available last year, we couldn't resist the opportunity to make this wine. Pinot Blanc, the whi ... morete grape cousin of Pinot Noir, is a natural choice for the cold valley site at the original home ranch. The classic Green Valley conditions of cold, foggy nights and sunny days enhances the varietal's aromatics, bright acidity and cleansing minerality. Our 2006 Pinot Blanc is crisp and fresh, with juicy apricot and peach aromas and steely just-picked apple flavors. It's a racy, bright wine, cool and refreshing for sipping on a hot summer afternoon or evening. We made just 112 cases from this small block.

2006 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
The long, cool 2006 growing season enabled extended hang time in our great array of pinot vineyards, developing the ebullient fruit and rich structure that Russian River is so priz ... moreed for. Its aromatic lushness immediately distinguishes our ‘06 Dutton Ranch Pinot offering, with succulent black cherry, blackberry and cranberry aromas fairly leaping out of the glass. With time, the undertones of Asian spice and a slight smokiness creep in for support. In the mouth, the wine follows with the expected vibrant cherry and cranberry fruit, but really fills out with darker blackberry and coffee undertones. True to the Dutton-Goldfield style, the wine’s fresh acidity and moderate alcohol facilitate the clean berry finish. At this stage of its life this is a beautiful wine to pair with fresh cheeses and rich fish dishes, but in a few more years it will be a perfect truffle risotto or smoked quail match.

2005 Sanchietti Vineyard Pinot Noir Green Valley - Russian River Valley Appellation
An exceptional vintage in an exceptional vineyard would be the synopsis of the 2005 Sanchietti Pinot. 2005 was just the sort of year that Sanchietti loves–lots of spring moisture ... more, moderate set (10 tons off of 6 acres), and a long, cool ripening season. The thin soil pushes the vines quickly at the end of the season, so the cool fall provided the fruit extra hang time and wonderful ripeness, both in flavors and texture. The hallmark of Sanchietti for us is its enthralling combination of grace and power, and the 2005 offering certainly exemplifies this. In the nose it leads with dark blueberry fruit, violets, and a hint of black tea, all with a touch of extra concentration courtesy of this vintage. In the mouth bright berry and black cherry shine through along with concentrated, finely structured tannins and ginger spice. This a wine that is clearly packed tightly and well built for aging, but its silkiness and candied finish are enticing already. Enjoy it over a long dinner of veal Cordon Bleu, truffle risotto, or Moscovy duck breast. 343 cases produced.

2005 Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah Green Valley-Russian River Valley
This newly released, lush, cool-climate Syrah comes from the heart of the Green Valley appellation. It retains the focused blueberry fruit, bright acidity and moderate alcohol so ... morecharacteristic of our area, but at the same time offers an enveloping lushness. In the nose this wine entices with aromas of blueberry, black cherry and nutmeg. It follows in the mouth with wonderfully plush tannins that carry its dark flavors of black cherry, boysenberry and toffee through to a lingering sweet finish. This is a syrah that keeps you wanting more. It’s a wonderful match to salty cheeses like aged Gouda and Gruyere, or savory fowl or meat dishes. This is truly a wine that the winemaker enjoys, and hopes that you will too.

Zinfandel
|
2006 Russian River Valley Zinfandel Russian River Valley
The long, cool 2005 harvest season produced zinfandel fruit that wonderfully suited our style at Dutton-Goldfield: fruit with great physiological ripeness at moderate sugar, and ba ... morelanced acidity. The resulting wine shows the tremendous lushness and vibrancy for which zin is so prized, while maintaining an elegant balance not often seen in the varietal. This is a wine that is consistent from first sniff to the long, deep cherry finish. Throughout, it shows depth, dark enticing fruit, and soft candied overtones. In the nose, the black cherry, toffee and floral notes draw you in. In the mouth, its cherry and boysenberry fruit give a real perception of sweetness, enhanced by soft tannins and spicy wood notes. Its moderate alcohol allows the freshness and complexity of this wine to shine through, as well as helping it to be excellent for pairing with anything from pasta dishes and roasted meats to Parmesan and Manchego cheese and dark chocolate brownies.

2006 Morelli Lane Vineyard Zinfandel Russian River Valley
The Morelli Lane Vineyard is archetypal for all we love about our part of the world: scenic, alive with history, and delicious. This 19th century planting is located at the top of ... moreStoetz Ridge, just north of the town of Occidental on the far western edge of the Russian River Valley appellation. Its dry-farmed, head-trained 1.8-acre block is all that’s left of a vineyard planted by the area’s early Italian settlers over 100 years ago. Left unfarmed for years, the Duttons (with prodding from Dan) revived the vineyard in 1995 and its fruit now enables us to provide this special limited bottling of old vine Zinfandel. Its cool proximity to the coast gives us a Zin of exceptional brightness and moderate alcohol; its hilltop perch facilitates the ripeness for wonderful fruit density and lush tannins; and its age gives us the personality that makes the wine truly special.
