Edmeades Estate

At Edmeades we've become famous for our limited bottlings of iconoclastic Zinfandel from the cool, coastal vineyards of Mendocino County. Dr. Edmeades planted his first 24 acres of vineyards in 1963. He founded his winery and launched his own brand in 1972. The Jackson Family purchased Edmeades in 1988 and brought current winemaker Van Williamson on board in 1994.

2005 Zinfandel
Mendocino

Focused aromas of cherries, spice, roasted coffee, and oak vanillin lead way to more funky aromas of earth and minerals. The Grenache adds a perfumed, spicy fruitiness to the aroma ... mores. The Petite Sirah fills in the middle palate with meaty, darker fruit flavors.

Another vintage with a higher percentage of Zinfandel in the blend shows bright, upfront fruitiness on the palate with a long, lingering berry finish. There is greater structure and acidity than our previous vintages with the chalky tannins from Redwood Valley fruit peaking through the finish. The fruit is packed tight and juicy, adding zest to the firm structured finish. The 2005 has excellent cellaring potential and will be soft, supple and smooth in five to ten years.

2004 Piffero Zinfandel
Piffero Vineyard

Piffero always delivers intensely perfumed black cherry fruit. The bright aromas and dark exotic fruit flavors combine with a vanilla bean character from the new French oak, adding ... more sweetness to the fruit. Structure and framework is what the 2004 vintage is all about. One of the earliest harvests on record, this vintage has meaty structure and weight, complexity, and smooth chalky tannins. Yummy!

2005 Chase Zinfandel

Think cherries … loads of ’em. Chocolate-covered cherries, dried Bing cherries, candied cherries, perfumed cherries. Mendocino Zin may be known for cherry and berry flavors, bu ... moret this bottling is over the top, with cherry bursting out in all directions, topped with a rich toasty oak bouquet with a touch of butterscotch. Bold … and big, with excellent cellaring potential for five to ten years.

2003 Alden Late Harvest Zinfandel

ince its first release in 1999, Alden Ranch Zinfandel has gained notoriety as a whale of a Zin. With more resemblance to port, the 2003 vintage stays true to its bloodline. Bright ... moreraspberry combines with toasted oak forming the core of the aromatics. Hints of peaches and nectarines add to the intensity of fruitiness as the aromas tiptoe toward spices and black fruits. Berry flavors intensify on the pallet with a lingering, tangy citrus finish. Like previous vintages it is great before dinner as an aperitif, on ice around the pool, or with a cheese plate and chocolate dessert just sitting by the fireplace. Careful consumption is recommended because the alcohol can creep up and bite your head the next morning.
