Cheapskate Wines2474 visitors
These are seriously good wines, made in classic styles for the progressive, hip consumer who appreciates honesty and humor. We forge long-term partnerships with top growers in unfashionable areas, and employ the same winemaking skills and personal attention which have made our first label some of the most sought-after wines in the world. We love making beautiful wine, and we hate selling it to the unappreciative. So we make just enough wine for sensible production economies, but little enough that we know it will all sell without a push. | Santa Rosa, CA Phone: (831) 215-0191 Website: http://www.cheapskatewines.com Appellation: Alexander Valley Map to Cheapskate Wines

Cabernet Franc
|
2003 Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc done right is perhaps the most elegant and profound of reds. Here is proof that California can offer rich fruit and ample structure as well. Joe Ramazotti’s living ... more soil gave us full ripeness at moderate brix. There is no trace of the dry tannin and green flavors typical of this variety in circumstances of unmanaged canopy and lifeless soil. Instead the wine presents well-developed plum, sage and cinnamon flavors borne on a silky, chocolaty tannin structure.
Joe’s benign vineyard practices stimulate the growth of earthworms and mycorrhizal fungi which permit trace mineral uptake by the vine. In consequence, the finish possesses a mineral energy usually unseen in cabernet franc outside the Loire.

2005 Surly Chenin Blanc
Pear and jasmine aromas with champagne-like “sur lies” nuances. Full bodied but fresh on the palate, with a lively mineral finish.”

Meritage
|
2005 Miser Meritage
“Miser” was conceived as a traditional Bordeaux blend, a more serious and thoughtful cousin to our popular and muscular California Cabernet Sauvignon. Here we sought a satisfyi ... moreng depth of flavor by marrying the firm tannins and forward fruit of Gary Mangels’ superb Suisun Valley Cab Sauv with the chocolate undertones of Lange Vineyard and the spicy, minerally Haynes Valley component, then framing the lush richness of the resulting Cabernet Sauvignon blend with the energetic drive and refinement of Cabernet Franc from the Lodi appellation. This Cabernet Franc also imparts intriguing notes of tobacco and tarragon to the nose and a lingering finish reminiscent of fine Grapes, so we elected to utilize a substantial portion. It’s also cheaper!
