Wellington Vineyards Cuvee |
2003 Syrah, Cuvee "R"
Five different Syrah clones plus 4% Vognier give great complexity. This wine is so black it’s almost opaque. The nose has tons of cherry and wild berry fruit with notes of stone fruit, cassis and smoked bacon. The structure is classic: muscular and racy. This is not a typical fat, sweet, high alcohol California style wine, but don’t get the wrong idea – it’s not thin or tart either. This cuvee is significantly more age worthy than any Syrah we’ve made to date (the 1994 and 1995 are wonderful right now). I’d suggest pairing it with hearty fare if you drink it young. I’m going to cellar quite a few bottles and drink the EnglandCrest while I’m letting this develop. |
