Carneros
The fruit for our Viognier is from the Cold Creek Vineyard in Carneros. The extremely well drained sandy loam soil is quite a departure from the normal Carneros clay. Temperatures during the growing season are rather cool, with high temperatures generally in the high 70’s to low 80’s. This leads to a long growing season and a late harvest date, giving the vines time to develop concentrated flavor in the grapes. The 2005 Viognier exhibits intensely perfumed aromas of nectarine, apricot, jasmine and honeysuckle. On the palate, this rich wine offers exotic flavors of papaya and orange peel with a luscious lingering finish. While this wine offers immediate enjoyment, it will develop well in the bottle for the next 3 to 5 years.
