Red Car Wine Co. Syrah |
2001 The Stranger
The Stranger is 100% Syrah blended from two vineyards – 59% San Marcos (Paso Robles) and 41% Colson Canyon (Santa Maria). San Marcos produced an elegant, aromatic wine with smoked meat and boysenberry notes. Colson was a savage, blue-black monster, redolent of blueberries and blackberries. Both wines were gently de-stemmed then crushed by hand. Each wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts, and given long macerations on the skins - 30 days for San Marcos, 60 for Colson.
The color is dark purple. The nose (at bottling) suggests a “summer pudding” of boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry with a hint of black olive, grilled meat (steak) and a touch of vanilla from the 25% new Seguin Moreau “Haut Brion” barrels. The flavors are deep and layered with a creamy, almost decadent mouthfeel. |
