Handley Cellars Zinfandel |
2005 Zinfandel, Redwood Valley Redwood Valley
Redwood Valley (covering about 35 square miles), was first settled and planted by Italian immigrants in the 1850’s, but did not gain official status as an appellation until 1997. California coastal ranges protect the valley from much of the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, allowing Zinfandel grapes to come to full ripeness.
On the nose, our Redwood Valley Zinfandel is reminiscent of cherry pie: cherries enhanced by vanilla and cinnamon. Hints of bitter chocolate and vanilla add depth to ripe cherry and raspberry flavors.
This Zinfandel is a bit softer and less assertive than other Zinfandels, and can therefore be served with foods that might not be normally associated with Zinfandel: try it with grilled vegetables, roast chicken, or a hearty vegetable soup. |
