2006 Chardonnay, Redwood Hill
Santa Cruz Mountains

The Redwood Hill Chardonnay displays a beautiful vanilla aroma from the French oak and yeastiness from sur lees aging. Stopping here you might think it to be a typical California Chardonnay, saturated and heavy-handed, but no, the crisp acidity is reminiscent of Granny Smith apples with a luscious pear aroma to round out the nose. I think of the Redwood Hill as a sipping wine, refreshing and elegant all in one. As Spring rolls around, savor this refreshing Chardonnay on a pleasant California evening with simply prepared fresh fish, perhaps a dozen or so oysters. Please enjoy, as I will certainly be doing the same.
