Handley Cellars Syrah |
2005 Syrah Redwood Valley, Kazmet Vineyard
Kazmet Vineyard, farmed by Leila Kazimi and Neal Mettler, lies in the western foothills of Redwood Valley. This small valley (covering about 35 square miles), was first settled and planted by Italian immigrants in the 1850’s, but did not gain official status as an appellation until1997. The Syrah vines in Kazmet Vineyard are beautiful head-trained specimens, planted about nine years ago. California coastal ranges protect the vineyard from much of the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, allowing Syrah grapes to come to full ripeness.
Reminiscent of a Rhone style Syrah, this wine displays characteristics of bright red berry fruit with underlying blackberry and blueberry intensity, enhanced by a touch of tobacco. |

ReviewsRating: 96 A great marriage of California and Rhone styles. Black berries with a hint of tobacco and dry tannins. Recommend pairing up with barbqued lamb. Reviewed by: anonymous |
