SMALL LOTS of RARE WINES BEING RELEASED AT
CASA NUESTRA WINERY MARCH 1, 2008!
St. Helena, Napa Valley California: Casa Nuestra Winery & Vineyards is excited to offer the two newest releases of their special interest wines, available for tasting and purchase only at the their winery or through their wine club:
* 2007 CHENIN BLANC OLD VINES - ST. HELENA ESTATE
* 2006 TINTO CLASSICO, OLD VINES – OAKVILLE ESTATE
The 2007 Dry Chenin Blanc is produced entirely from their St. Helena estate vineyards planted in the early 1960’s. Every year, beginning with the first production in 1979, it has earned great respect world wide, with an impressive collection of medals from respected competitions along with other noteworthy accolades: In 1987 it was served at the White House; In 2003 it was invited to represent all of North America’s Chenin Blanc production at an international Chenin Blanc conference in France’s Loire Valley; Also, in 2003 it was described as “terrific” and “(..a mindblower)” by Matt Kramer of the Wine Spectator; In 2005, Mr. Kramer reiterated by writing in his book New California Wine “Very likely it is California’s finest and truest Chenin Blanc.”
Casa Nuestra produces this varietal in a classic, dry style that can be cellared successfully for more than 20 years. Bottles of the 1981, 1983 and 1985 vintages were recently served at their Winemaker’s Dinner and they were wonderful wine experiences for all who tasted it, offering plenty of fruit with a crisp finish. The 2007 harvest yielded only 328 cases.
The 2006 Tinto Classico was produced from the winery’s 1.6 acre, Oakville vineyard. This hillside vineyard was planted in the early 1940’s by an Italian immigrant for a wine to be consumed at his own table. This vineyard style now almost extinct is called “field blending.” Allen Price, Casa Nuestra’s Winemaker calls the vineyard “living history,” because it is one of the few remaining “field-blend” vineyards. There are an estimated nine varietals planted side-by-side that are picked, fermented and bottled together, as if they were one varietal. Once very common, field blended vineyards have mostly met their demise making way for single grape, commercial plantings. Casa Nuestra has fought to preserve this historic vineyard and they produce the wine just as it was originally intended, using gentle pressing techniques and small oak barrels. The result is a ruby colored wine that offers flavors reminiscent of creamy raspberries and chocolate. The wine is incomparable. 201 cases were produced.
Overall, Casa Nuestra’s goal is preserve these rare varieties and unusual blends and to keep the vineyards and winery a true taste of old Napa, where folks are encouraged to visit, sit back and savor fine, handcrafted wines.
Casa Nuestra, which means “our house” was established in 1979 and continues to produce only about 2,000 cases annually from the estate’s vineyards. The Casa team of just six people, proudly craft by hand several wines including Meritage (Bordeaux style blend), Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Rosado (a dry rosé), White Riesling, Late Harvest French Colombard, Two Goats Red (a Napa Valley Red Wine!), Tinto St. Helena, and Tinto Classico – both made from field blended vineyards and more recently introduced a Petite Sirah. All are award winning. They welcome visitors to the winery Monday through Saturday by appointment, for tasting, tours and barrel sampling. Casa Nuestra Winery is located at 3451 Silverado Trail North in St. Helena, California, Napa Valley. They can also be reached by phone toll-free: 866/844-WINE or on the web at www.casanuestra.com. Picnickers and well-behaved canines welcome!
