Brochelle Syrah Best of Show + Cabernet Double-Gold - So. Florida Wine Competition October 30, 2007 - The inaugural South Florida Fine American Wine Competition in Boca Raton, Florida, last week was a smashing success. Sponsored by the South Florida Business Journal, it is believed that this event is the first wine competition in the country to limit entries to American products only, as well as establish a threshold wine value which must be reached in order for a wine to participate. Over 400 wines were submitted from some of the country’s most prestigious wineries and three vintners from California's Sonoma County and Central Coast area took best of show.
There was only one award for the the Best of Show in red, white, and dessert wines; the Double Golds (100% of the panel had to agree to award this color); and the Golds and Silvers (requiring at least 75% of the panel to concur). Medals were not easy to come by, so if one was awarded, the wine earned it. And wineries should be proud of any medal from this event, especially Silver and above.
Best of Show (Red Wine): 2005 Brochelle Paso Robles Syrah ($39)
Double Gold Medal Winners:
Cabernet Sauvignon-2004 Brochelle Napa ($43)
