Zinfandel

35926 visitors
Zinfandel is grown by over 200 producers, and now accounts for over 23% of the total vineyard territory. Its quality and character largely depend on the place of cultivation, the age of the vineyard, and the winemaking technology. Zinfandel became so popular that in 1991 the association of Zinfandel Advocates and Producers (ZAP) was founded with the objective to promote the varietal and wine, and support scientific research on Zinfandel - particularly its origin.
More information on Zinfandel
Food Pairing: Pairs well with barbecue foods like chili, burgers and fried chicken -heavy on the spice and flavor. Zinfandel can hold its own out of a plastic glass on a picnic table or served in crystal with an elegant Chateaubriand.

2004 Old Vine Zinfandel
Cucamonga Valley

Every year we craft a Zinfandel that speaks directly to its American heritage. The fruit comes from several small lot, hundred year old vineyards in the Cucamonga Valley, and the w ...moreine is aged exclusively in the best American Oak to more fully accentuate the Zinfandel grape's inherent spiciness. The result? A hearty, sophisticated wine of plentiful black cherry and berry flavors, complex spice and pepper notes, and the continual hints of fresh cut tobacco. Fortunately, our Zinfandel program is a perpetual gold medal winner. The previous vintage was also judged to be Best Zinfandel of Southern California at the California State Fair. However, we think the 2004 is probably our best Zin to date. It will be drinking at its prime 2008-2010.

Balance is always the goal for any wine and winemaker. Forcing a wine to do something it’s not intended to do is a big no no! The 2005 in our opinion jumps rope on a razor blade—the perfect combination of power and finesse!

Maple Vineyards

This elegant and lush wine comes from the head pruned and dry farmed Maple Vineyard on the eastern bench of Dry Creek Valley. Flooded with black cherry, currant and cranberry flavors, there are also supporting flavors of vanilla and rich toast from aging in 100% French oak barrels. Though picked separately the Zinfandel and Petite Sirah are co-fermented giving this wine a deep garnet color.

We recommend serving our 2005 Maple Zinfandel with grilled pork tenderloin, polenta lasagna or a wedge of dry jack cheese.

2004 Zinfandel Late Harvest "Port"
Paso Robles

We have perfected the method for making this wine. We chose ten rows from our Cobble Creek Vineyard and net the vines to protect them from birds. The grapes are then left to hang a ...morend raisin up for about one month after the primary picking. This creates grapes of unmatched intensity and sugar. The raisins soak up juice and more sugar is released as the juice ferments. We fortify the fermented juice with distilled wine spirits to stop the fermentation and maintain the proper sugar balance. This creates an intense wine, full of plum and spice. Enjoy this after dinner, by itself, or with decadent chocolate desserts.

2004 Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

The 2004 Dry Creek Zinfandel is the seventh vintage for Christopher Creek Winery. We produced this wine by fermenting the grapes in small open top tanks with two punch downs daily ...moreto every “pump over.” After two weeks, the wine was transferred to a mixture of 65% American oak and 35% French oak barrels (25% of the barrels were new oak). Classical Dry Creek Zin in style, the wine exhibits a medium-dark ruby hue, with forward strawberry and raspberry jammy fruit, hints of vanilla, white pepper, spice and a mouth feel that lingers. While still quite young, this intense, perfectly balanced and bright wine is remarkably approachable with medium tannins and an aging potential of about 3-to-4 years. The wine pairs wonderfully with risotto, pasta, turkey, duck, lamb or chicken.

2004 Zinfandel
Russian River Valley

The 2004 Russian River Zinfandel is the sixth vintage for Christopher Creek. We made this wine from grapes obtained from two nearby vineyards, both of which added to the complexity ...more and taste of the wine. 70% of the grapes are from young but "old clone Zinfandel vines" and 30% from a two acre plot of 80+ year-old dry-farmed Zinfandel vines which have intermingled a few Alicante Bouschet and Carignane vines. The younger vines bring a subtle berry aroma and acidity, while the older vines add the structure, concentration and intensity. Although somewhat spicier as a result of the cooler Russian River climate, this wine exhibits ripe, jammy boysenberry, blackberry, prune and currant fruits with a full mouth feel and is perfectly balanced and approachable. Should easily age for 4-to-6 years.

Traditional Italian food would be complimented by this Primitivo-style wine, as well as chocolate desserts and Amaretto cakes.

2005 Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley

The family owned Zichichi Vineyard, located in the Dry Creek Valley, is often referred to as a “Zinfandel paradise.” Grapes grown in this northern Sonoma County appellation ben ...moreefit from long warm days followed by cool nights, producing fruit of unique quality and intensity. This old vine vineyard dates back to the 1930s and is an ancestral field blend of Zinfandel, Carignane and Petite Sirah. The 2005 harvest from the Zichichi family vineyard was hand-picked at 24.8 Brix, fermented on the skins to enhance color and flavor extraction, then aged 14 months in American oak. Deeply colored and ladened with flavors reminiscent of soft plumy fruit, boysenberry, currant and smoke, this full bodied wine finishes with a spicy edge and a sensual richness that Zin lovers won’t want to miss. Made in limited quantity, this single vineyard wine is available only at the Winery.
