Pinot Noir

15891 visitors
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines produced predominantly from pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the french words for pine and black alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit.

Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. In De re rustica, Columella described a grape variety in Burgundy in the 1st century A.D. that sounds like Pinot noir. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.

2005 Pinot Noir
Santa Lucia Highlands

Vintage 2005 was an extraordinary vintage for Pinot Noir in California. The long cool growing season gave us wines
that are rich, fruity, spicy and well balanced.

...more /> This particular offering from the Tondre Grapefield, has a remarkable fruity nose that keeps you coming back for
more; tart red cherries, black cherries, hints for raspberries and blackberries can be found in abundance. Subtle oak
tones support rather than dominate both the nose and the palate, lending to a very pleasant mid-palate mouthfeel.

The Santa Lucia Highlands AVA comes shining through, showing its typical floral and spicy characteristics that set
this appellation apart from all others.

1999 "Estate" Pinot Noir
Santa Cruz Mountains

There is a very deep component of Pinot Noir fruit in both the aroma and flavors. The flavors yield a deep extract of cherries and Santa Rosa plums, layered around complexities of ...morepeppery spiciness, with hints of wood smoke and lilac. In the mouth the wine has a rich texture, great acidity, and a lingering finish of deep Pinot Noir fruit.

This wine is just now starting to open up and reveal its tremendous depth and complexity. Enjoy it now with some breathing time or it’s a good candidate to forget about in your cellar and then discover just how wonderful these big Pinot Noirs can be with time.

2005 Pinot Noir - Branciforte Creek Vineyard
Santa Cruz Mountains

Branciforte Creek Vineyard is located on Jarvis Road in the Vine Hill area of the Santa Cruz Mountains, just a mile away from our well-known Estate Vineyard on the same road. The v ...moreines were planted in 1988 in a site that originally had grapes since 1863. This vineyard has low yields of very flavorful fruit year after year.

This vintage is unusually complex and explodes aromatically for such a young wine. There are many different layers of fruit and spice that continue to expand as the wine interacts with the air.

In the mouth it is equally expansive with just the right amount of acidity to carry all those layers of fruit across your tongue. There is a long finish of Pinot Noir fruit along with some dry leaf and floral elements.

This delicious Pinot Noir is a blend of our two Estate vineyards. Intriguing aromatics lead to the well structured but elegant mouthfeel. Fine tannins and bright acidity are framed by flavors of bright fruits flavors of cherries and rhubarb with a hint of earthiness. Drinking well now this wine should age well for another 3-7 years.

The wine is a blend of 65% Pommard clone, 30% Dijon #115 clone and 5% Dijon #777 clone. The #777 clone came from a small vineyard in Philo - a small inland town in the Mendocino (Anderson Valley) appellation. The #777 clone added color and body to the finished wine, which features cranberry, loganberry, spice and forest floor aromatics. 2005 Pinot Noir
Carneros

Our Carneros Pinot Noir comes entirely from the Toyon Vineyard, located in the Napa side of the appellation. It sits on a cool, southern facing knoll with spectacular views to San ...morePablo Bay. It was planted for us in 1998 to two clones of Pinot noir: Dijon 115 and the Swan selection. The Swan selection possesses deep, juicy black cherry, blackberry, and dark chocolate flavors with great structure. The 115 clone overlays pretty aromatics of spice, violets, and cola and bright fruit. The union of the two produces a densely flavored wine of exceptional complexity for near term enjoyment or medium term aging.

2005 Pinot Noir
Sonoma Mountain

Perched atop Sonoma Mountain on the cool, northwestern slope, the Red Dog Vineyard is a mere 17 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The combination of elevation and exposure make this no ...morermally our coolest location. In geological terms, Sonoma Mountain is an ancient site with weathered soils that have been leached of nutrients over the eons. In this site, the vines are greeted in the Spring by the cold, harsh, maritime breezes that sweep through the area unimpeded by the lower hills in the coastal range through before thriving in the more mild summer conditions. The resultant wine rates as the most complex, nuanced and ageworthy of the Ancien Pinots.

2002 Pinot Noir
St. Helena

The 2002 Pinot Noir was harvested at 24.8° brix in late September. The color is deep garnet with a ruby edge. It was aged for 14 months in 100% French oak. The bouquet is one o ...moref black cherry with a hint of figs. The black cherry really carries through on the palate. The wine fills the mouth with a velvety texture, yet retains good acidity for longevity. We believe this is a classic “Carneros†Pinot Noir with the structure to improve tremendously over the next five years.

2006 Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

A new wine in our line up, the Sonoma County Pinot Noir is a gentle, fruit driven wine that is focused on it's ability to pair with food. The nose is greeted with fresh, red fruit ...more like strawberry, raspberry and dried cranberry. Similarly on the palate, generous amounts of cherry and strawberry are evident. Ninety percent of the blend was aged in twice or three times used barrels in an effort to minimize the oak influence and to maintain the gentle characteristics of Pinot Noir.

2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

The 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir highlights the great growing conditions we had during late September into early October. Across the board, yields were slightly higher com ...morepared to 2005 which allowed us to be more aggressive with our pruning which ensured proper vine balance. Due to a slightly warmer year, flavors were able to more fully develop. Cool nights were consistent which naturally balanced out the sunny days, giving us the ability to ripen the fruit but maintain structure and backbone. The blend is comprised of 4 vineyards: Martinelli, Bachigalupi, Toboni, and Mononi. The wine shows remarkable richness and density. Layers of dark berries and ripe, red fruit like cranberry and raspberry lead on the nose. Similar fruit flavors greet the palate and are joined with gentle, baking spices like clove or cinnamon. Soft tannins accentuate the natural acidity of the wine, creating an elegant mouth feel. This wine will be very accessible in its youth but should continue to develop gracefully over the next 5-6 years.

2006 Longbow Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

This blend is our winemaker's selection of select vineyard blocks and specifically chosen coopers. From year to year the individual lots that make up this wine might change but th ...moree style remains the same: rich and lifted aromatics, dense and focused flavors and broad, velvety textures. Aromatically, the wine begins with clear, concentrated notes of ripe cherry and dark berries. On the nose, the fruit elements combine with hints of smoke and sandalwood. The palate opens with ripe cherry and plum. Similar to the nose there is a suggestion of blood orange in the background. Immediately, the texture of the wine is evident. Broad, velvety layers coat the palate and intensify the finish. This wine will age gracefully over the next 5-7 years. If you'd like to enjoy this wine sooner, decant for 45 minutes before serving.
