Pinot Noir

15889 visitors
Pinot noir is a red wine grape variety of the species Vitis vinifera. The name may also refer to wines produced predominantly from pinot noir grapes. The name is derived from the french words for pine and black alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple pine cone shaped bunches of fruit.

Pinot noir grapes are grown around the world, but the grape is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France. In De re rustica, Columella described a grape variety in Burgundy in the 1st century A.D. that sounds like Pinot noir. It is widely considered to produce some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.

2005 Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Stage Vineyard

This beautifully balanced, richly concentrated pinot noir showcases classic pinot noir varietal flavors, its Sonoma Coast single vineyard terroir, and its Burgundian vinification. ...moreOn the nose the wine exhibits opulent, seductive aromas of cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, vanilla, and lavender. On the palate lush cherry, raspberry, mocha, vanilla, and fig notes are followed by mineral, leather, and asian spice notes on the classically textured silky finish. Miniscule yields of 1-2 tons per acre in the vineyard, and extended maceration during fermentation contribute to this pinot's rich fruit concentration and ample tannic structure. A combination of diverse clonal selections in the vineyard, and varied yeast selections during fermentation, contribute to the complexity of the lots selected for the final blend. The use of 100 % free run wine only lends beautiful balance to the final blend, and bottling 100% unfiltered captures all of this wines complex flavors, aromas, and texture. This pinot noir's great balance of fruit, acid, tannin, and alcohol make it delicious and approachable now in its youth, as well as a wine which will reward careful cellaring over the next decade.

2006 Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

More than any other variety, Pinot Noir is a wine that speaks for itself once it reaches your palate. Our 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a great example of a wine crafted ...morefrom perfect fruit. When grown with care, Pinot Noir in our region delivers a great balance of fruity and earthy aromas and flavors packaged in a velvety mouth feel. This wine is a mix of three clones of Pinot Noir grown in two vineyards. We pick the fruit when flavors are well developed but before any raisining or extremely high sugar levels show up. The fruit was picked at night in the O’neel vineyard and early in the morning at the Wholer vineyard. The grapes where destemmed and put into open-top tanks for fermentation. We pressed the wines as soon as the fermentation completed and racked them into French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation completed in the winter of 2007, after which the wines were allowed to age and develop tertiary flavors on the light lees of fermentation.

Rose petal, plum, and slight bergamot aromas lead on the nose of this wine, a promise of what is to come with the first sip. On the palate, the wine starts with a cherry note and follows with wild berry flavors. The f

Santa Lucia Highlands

The 2006 version shows classic Rosella ...more’s Vineyard characteristics, and is a testament to Gary Franscioni’s unparalleled farming of his vineyard. It starts with the intriguingly spicy and fruit-driven nose which immediately tells you the wine is from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The natural acidity on the palate brings the wonderful rhubarb and cola flavors into focus in time for the long, slightly toasty finish. The 2006 Rosella’s Pinot Noir should drink well from the end of 2008 through at least 2012.

2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley

To create the 2006 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, grapes were hand-harvested from our vineyards. Crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques, including fermentation in small ...moretanks, hand punch-downs and aging in 60-gallon French oak barrels, this Pinot Noir is an elegant example of this varietal.

The cool, foggy Russian River Valley climate allows for slow ripening, enabling the grapes to develop full flavor maturation over an extended time.

This wine offers classic Russian River Valley aromas of cola with dark fruit and notes of barrel spice. Flavors of black cherry, violet and a note of cinnamon unfold on the palate. This Pinot is silky smooth with a supple finish that glides across the palate.
