Details: The heart of Chianti and the Tuscan region’s “Cabernet”, this varietal now grows in California as well. Italian immigrants from Tuscany probably introduced the Sangiovese grape to California in the late 1800s and it is one of several components of the field blends in many old North Coast and Gold Country vineyards. Sangiovese is usually a bit higher in acidity making it an exceptional food wine and its style ranges from firm and elegant to assertive and robust. Join us as we sample the delights of Sangiovese. $25 For those of you unfamiliar with how a blind tasting works, let me give you a quick primer. At each tasting we will feature a single varietal. (for example: Zinfandel). The Grapevine will select 5 wines of that varietal for the tasting. The wines will be placed in bags so you will not know the producers of the wines you are trying. The wines are poured into your 5 glasses and then you taste, swirling and sniffing and sampling over the next hour. You can take notes and choose your favorites if you like. At the end of the tasting, we will discuss the wines and then unveil them. The event usually takes about 1-1/2 hours. Each tasting is limited to 10 people. You can come to one or come to them all, just pick the ones that interest you most.
