It was Friday, August 5th. Sometime between 4 and 9 pm.
The town was San Marcos, California.
The place was North County Wine Company.
Far from the wines and bars of Europe.
But perhaps not so far.
The people were thirsty.
They wanted to drink wine.
But not just one or two wines.
They wanted to taste many wines.
That was what brought them to this place.
So they tasted their wines, and they
nibbled on appetizers. It reminded
them of Paris. And of Barcelona. And of Rome.
They drank, and they were happy.
These wines of Europe pleased them.
This is what they drank:
Vallagarina Pinot Grigio 2009
Cantine Valpane Barbera 2009
Guido Porro Dolcetto d’Alba 2009
Henry Fessy Beaujolais Moulin-a-Vent 2009
Clos de la Procure Cotes de Provence 2007
Venta Morales Tempranillo 2009
Las Rocas Vinas Viejas Garnacha 2008
Wines of Italy, of France, and of Spain.
They thought of the canals of Venice.
Of the bistros of the Left Bank.
Of running with the bulls in Pamplona.
Then they remembered this wine
experience only cost them $10.
And they smiled.
They thought of drinking with Hemingway.
With Fitzgerald, and Stein, and Picasso.
Then they realized they were drinking
with those wine geek brothers at NCWC.
They smiled again.
Which was nice of them. Because those
